The Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS, pronounced "chips") is a national organization dedicated to facilitating the design, construction and operation of a new generation of high performance, green, healthy K-12 schools. CHPS has built its reputation and success on a robust technical program that includes the development and maintenance of a variety of technical resources for school designers and facility managers, including assessment tools and best practices. CHPS also administers a variety of recognition, outreach and training programs to promote high performance schools.
Currently funded through membership dues and grants, CHPS maintains relationships with partner states and regions, an active board of directors and a technical committee of experts from the environmental, construction and education fields.
Position Overview:
CHPS is seeking a full-time Executive Director. The successful candidate would begin as the Deputy Executive Director and work with the current part-time Executive Director for a period no longer than 6 months, at which time the candidate would become the Executive Director. The current Executive Director would then continue as an advisor. CHPS is located in San Francisco and has a full-time staff of 6. More information is available on our website.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a charismatic leader of the green schools movement
- Serve as the public face of CHPS and form partnerships with: Regulatory, legislative and governmental entities including various Congressional Caucuses, Department of Education, Department of Energy, Environmental Protection Agency; National media; National school; Schools and districts
- Help CHPS complete its transition from a regional organization to a comprehensive national program
- Manage a growing staff and organization budget
- Direct and implement a strong fundraising program through foundation and government grants
- Ensure that CHPS' technical resources continue at the forefront of green building science
- Increase and deepen CHPS web presence
- Direct development of national education and training program
- Empower and nurture staff and volunteers
Qualifications:
- School construction, design or operations experience
- Background in school administration
- Experience in sustainable and green building principles
- Legislative or lobbying experience at a national level
- Budget management of at least $1 million
