Description

Background:


Safer Pest Control Project N.F.P. (SPCP), a non-profit organization
dedicated to reducing pesticide use and promoting safer alternatives
throughout Illinois, seeks an Executive Director. SPCP's programs address
both the public health risks and the environmental impacts of pesticides.
Current program areas include schools, day care centers, low-income and
public housing, yards and parks, and agriculture. SPCP engages and empowers
communities through outreach, advocacy, coalition building, technical
assistance, legislative campaigns, and model programs. SPCP works closely
with the Illinois Healthy Schools Campaign, U.S. EPA, Chicago Public
Schools, Chicago Housing Authority, American Lung Association, Illinois Pest
Control Association and Illinois Department of Public Health. SPCP has a
staff of three employees who work closely together.


Duties:

  • Oversee program work and manage staff;
  • Plan, develop, implement and evaluate programs;
  • Direct fundraising program including identifying funding sources, writing
    grant proposals and preparing reports;
  • Manage organization's finances;
  • Establish a community presence and work with the media on behalf of SPCP;
  • Organize and conduct workshops, conferences and seminars;
  • Provide information and technical assistance on pesticides and
    alternatives;
  • Attend staff, board, committee and community meetings;
  • Maintain program files and oversee management of the office.


Qualifications:

Successful applicants will have the following:

  • Demonstrated interest in SPCP's mission;
  • Relevant bachelor's degree required, graduate degree preferred;
  • At least five years experience in related field;
  • Management experience;
  • Experience in program development, implementation and evaluation;
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently as well as
    in teams;
  • Bookkeeping and financial management skills, including Quickbooks
    experience, preferred;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Access, and
    Excel.


Salary:

Salary will be in the high $40,000s or low $50,000s and will be based on
experience. Excellent benefits include health, dental and life insurance;
paid vacation and holidays; and monthly transit checks. Flexible work
schedule may be considered.
