Description
~ Southern Conservation Trust (SCT) is a community land trust founded in 1993 by Fayette County residents eager to preserve greenspace as our community develops. ~
The Trust protects farms and forests, environmentally sensitive land, valuable wildlife habitat and scenic greenspace in the fast growing counties south of metro Atlanta. Landowners donate property to us, which we may develop and manage as public preserves.
The Trust works with landowners who wish to permanently protect the ecological, agricultural, scenic or historic qualities of their land. Participating landowners may be eligible to receive significant tax benefits for donating land to the Trust or permanently protecting it from development with a conservation easement. We are the ONLY land trust working to preserve land on the Southside of Atlanta. The Trust owns, manages and protects over 1,632 acres, including four donated preserves.
We manage five public nature areas in Fayette County: Flat Creek Nature Area in Peachtree City, the Line Creek Nature Area on the border of Fayette and Coweta counties, Sams Lake Bird Sanctuary south of Fayetteville, Morgan Grove south Fayette County, and The Ridge Nature Area in Fayetteville. The Trust is currently developing its sixth public nature area,
Position Overview
Southern Conservation Trust seeks an executive director to lead a growing and successful land conservation program based in metro Atlanta's Southern Crescent and Upper Flint and Middle Chattahoochee River Basins. SCT has had a consistent record of community engagement, land protection and stewardship and currently owns, manages or holds easements on 2,428 acres.
SCT has earned a solid reputation for environmental advocacy since its inception 21 years ago and is accredited by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission. An enthusiastic and committed board, advisory board and volunteer base donate expertise, resources and ideas. They work together to strengthen community connections in a service area that spans multiple counties throughout Georgia.
