The Kings River Conservancy (KRC) is seeking a dynamic individual with a desire to preserve and restore Kings River and its habitat, to enhance community access, and drive and fuel our growth in some new exciting projects.

The ideal candidate will be able to work independently to grow KRC from a grassroots-level non-profit to a medium-sized 501(c)(3) enterprise within the first two years from hire. KRC seeks a leader from the non-profit community with excellent communication and writing skills who knows how to raise funds, both public and private, who either knows local leaders and key community members or how to quickly become familiar with them. The Executive Director is the face of the Kings River Conservancy.

​POSITION OVERVIEW

The Executive Director of the Kings River Conservancy (KRC) works closely with KRC’s Board of Directors, providing direction and leadership toward the achievement of the Conservancy’s philosophy, vision, mission, strategy, goals and objectives. This position is responsible for developing an organization that understands, values, and supports diversity in its workforce and which utilizes that diversity as a path towards greater impacts in the communities KRC serves. The ideal candidate must be able to work independently to grow KRC from a grass roots level non-profit to a small to medium size 501(c)(3) enterprise within the first two years from hire.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 

  •  Supervisory

    • Develops, motivates, and leads a high-performance Executive Team (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer of BOD); provides mentoring as a cornerstone to the development of management staff
    • Evaluates performance of the Executive Team for compliance with established policies and objectives of KRC
    • Supervises assigned staff, interns and volunteers; recruitment, performance management and other personnel processes as funding is developed to fill anticipated additional positions within staff
    • Ensure part-time staff are submitting hours to payroll as necessary (including seasonal or temporary positions)  
    • Effectively manages leadership adherence to long term and short-term vision and organizational goals  
    • Institutes and enforces corrective action plans when needed and monitors compliance
  • Fiscal  

    • Works collaboratively with outsourced Human Resources and Finance staff to monitor expenditures 
    • Creates annual budget to be presented to the Board of Directors (BOD) for approval 
    • Oversees the management of KRC operations within the established budget guidelines 
    • Reviews financial reports to ensure they are in alignment with budget, organizational goals and objectives
  • Development 

    • Develop innovative approaches and funding sources for new programs in compliance with KRC’s mission, vision and strategic objectives 
    • Grant writing, relationship building within philanthropic community, revenue generation to support the growth of KRC 
    • Administers grants, including reporting and fiscal management
    • Reviews the quality of all reports submitted to funding and any other external sources and ensures that reports are submitted on time
  • Governance 

    • Serves as Lead Staff to the BOD 
    • Collaborates with the Executive Team/Board to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes and personnel 
    • Prepares documentation and ensures the governance of the organization is properly maintained and assists the BOD in establishing necessary policy and decision-making to meet community needs 
    • Creation of the agenda for the monthly BOD meetings 
    • Provides the Board with timely information regarding the local, social and economic environment as it pertains to the KRC mission 
    • Approves KRC operational procedures, policies and personnel needs to ensure successful accomplishment of program and project objectives
    • Ensures all practices are consistent and compliant with contracts as well as federal, state and local requirements 
    • Works with outside consultants to monitor compliance within KRC programs and projects
  • Organizational Representation 

    • Establishes and maintains effective partnerships and communications with KRC’s key constituencies to build effective working relationships, including BOD, staff, clients, County, State, and Federal officers, and peer leaders
    • Acts as spokesperson for KRC with leaders of all federal, state, county, community groups, program heads and agencies
    • Meets with community leaders to ensure community engagement and satisfaction 
  • Other  

    • Travels for KRC business using personal transportation  
    • Works evenings, weekends, and non-traditional hours as required
    • Performs other duties as assigned 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree or a degree of higher learning from an accredited college university or a combination of experience and education
  • Ten years of experience in nonprofit administration, preferably in a Director level position or higher 
  • Record of commitment to diversity and advocacy for diverse and underserved communities, and proven experience working successfully to create an inclusive working environment 
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills     
  • Demonstrated skills in budget, staff, and program management in a non-profit environment 
  • Ability to effectively manage diverse programs and complex funding streams, including familiarity with the structure and management of federally and state-funded programs  
  • Ability to inspire innovation and initiative within KRC staff, BOD, and community  
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and Google Workspace  
  • Access to reliable transportation, including carrying adequate auto insurance on personal vehicle as required by CA state law, and insurability by KRC carrier if utilizing KRC vehicle

SALARY

  • $90,000-$100,000 a year; depending on experience.
