Then apply today to join the City of Champaign as an Environmental Sustainability Specialist in the Public Works Department.
Responsibilities of Position
The Environmental Sustainability Specialist spearheads the City’s sustainability initiatives, environmental programs and energy programs for both internal City operations and the greater community. From initial research, to developing plans, implementing strategies, and spreading the word, they are involved at every step of the way. They have strong planning and organization skills as well as the ability to promote programs and resources through public information events and materials. Additionally, they are adept at performance measurement, tracking metrics to evaluate programs and accomplish sustainability goals.
Note: This position is currently funded for two years.
Qualifications
Required:
- A four-year degree in public or business administration, environmental science, sustainability, or a related field.
- Program administration or project management experience.
- An equivalent combination of work experience and training that demonstrates the required knowledge and abilities will be considered.
- Knowledge of sustainability principles and best practices in areas such as energy efficiency, waste reduction, and green buildings.
- Knowledge of and apply to apply high quality customer service standards.
- Ability to research and analyze information and data and make appropriate conclusions and recommendations based on analysis.
- Excellent organizational skills, in terms of time management, task prioritization, and follow-through.
- Current valid state issued driver’s license and good driving record.
Preferred:
- Experience with budgeting or purchasing, particularly in a government setting.
- Experience with government or non-profit sustainability, environmental, or energy programs.
- Communications and/or marketing experience.
- Experience with performance management.
Note: Drug screening will be required.
Compensation
- The starting annual salary range is $61,030 - $69,471, plus an excellent fringe benefits package.
