Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include the collection of weekly (at a minimum) water quality monitoring data at established locations using a provided multi-parameter sonde; reviewing on a daily basis real-time data collected at the established locations by fixed equipment to evaluate changes in water quality that could be attributed to storm water or construction activities; and maintaining and calibrating the equipment as needed.

The selected candidate will carry a cell phone provided for the purpose of receiving automatic notifications of the status of water quality from the real time water quality data collection system.  Candidate must be available on an on-call basis to respond to the project site within one hour of receiving a notification of an exceedance of established water quality limits.  The candidate will perform an investigation of the cause of the exceedences, including evaluation of equipment, site inspections, and interviews with construction personnel. 

The project duration is estimated to be 2 years. The position is a part-time position located in DeKalb County, Tennessee.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Biology or Ecology with a minimum of 8 years of professional experience.
  • Experience collecting water quality data using and calibrating water quality multi-parameter sondes, such as YSI.
  • Experience in interpreting water quality data provided in tabular and graphical format.
  • Proven communication, writing, time management and organization skills. Ability to work well with project teams.
  • Ability and willingness to perform field work in inclement weather.
  • Construction activities will be performed 24 hours a day, 6 days a week and therefore this position will require the ability to respond to the site on an on-call basis and within one-hour as needed at any time.
  • Valid USA State driver's license.

Physical Requirements:

Willing and able to perform field work without restrictions.
