Summary/objective
The Environmental Scientist provides direct support, under the direction of a Project Manager or Team Lead, to environmental projects. The Environmental Scientist will complete tasks as assigned using applicable tools and skills to help develop, implement, and maintain management plans and procedures for our clients to ensure compliance with state, federal, and local regulations. The position will conduct fieldwork, complete calculations and other analyses, assist in the preparation of permits and regulatory documents.

Environmental Scientist I
- Creates and/or adapts field data sheets for use during data collection and/or inspections.
- Conducts various types of field investigations at client sites including data collection.
- Collects environmental samples of various media.
- Assists in research of projects and compilation of background data as requested
- Assists in the preparation of permits, plans and other documents.
- Coordinates with staff as necessary to accomplish project objectives.
- Completes tasks for project meetings and client needs as requested.
Work environment
- On-site field visits can be expected along with work done in an office setting.
- Office working conditions will occur in a well-lit, climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. The noise level is usually quiet. While performing in-office responsibilities of the job, the employee may be required to spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers.
- Field working conditions will occur in areas outside of the office environment. Field environments can include areas where the employee will need to walk, stand and bend. Exposure to both hot and cold environments and potential exposure to loud noises may occur.
Physical demands
The employee will regularly be required to speak and listen. The employee will frequently be required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel. There may be occasional lifting (overhead, waist level) from the floor of supplies and materials weighing no more than 30 pounds. The work may involve bending, standing or walking, sometimes over rough terrain.

Travel required
- Up to 35% travel to and from job sites as needed.
Qualifications
Required education and experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences, Engineering (preferably civil or environmental) or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university.
- 0-2 years of environmental compliance experience with industrial, municipal, and federal clientele.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions for presentation to project manager and/or team members.
- Ability to effectively manage work with multiple deadlines occurring simultaneously.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong time management skills.
- Working knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred education and experience
- Basic understanding of CWA, SDWA, RCRA, OSHA and NPDES.
- GIS experience.
Compensation
- Salary Range - $60,000 - $65,000 annually
