This position is within the Environmental Compliance & Relicensing group for Eastern Hydro region (Kaweah, Kern, Bishop, and East End locations) for the Power Production Department within SCE's Power Supply organization.

The successful candidate will serve as the primary technical environmental lead for Eastern Hydro projects and some Power Production projects. This will include managing the environmental contractors performing the work; set up the regulatory conditions for construction; train the contractors; and conduct field visits to ensure compliance during construction; review the projects upon completion and ensure all the appropriate documentation has been completed. These projects include generation and generation operated substation projects. In addition, this project manager will be primarily responsible for providing day-to-day compliance support to the Eastern Hydro regions. 


Responsibilities:

  • Complete all of the environmental filings and documentation related to hazardous waste, hazardous materials and chemicals, aboveground tanks, air quality and water quality. Compliance with the environmental requirements involves the entire Division's (over 100 people) implementation and cooperation. 
  • Manage environmental components of capital projects that have significant financial impact to SCE.
  • Manage environmental contractors and vendors.
  • Manage short & long-term corrective and planned maintenance projects in collaboration with department engineers, supervisors, and managers that focus on environmental/regulatory compliance, construction and equipment repair, reliability and betterment
  • Coordinate construction work that can impact or effect other SCE departments.
  • Consult with Federal, State, and local Government concerning project permits, approvals, and coordination.
  • Mentor the local staff responsible for implementing the environmental requirements for their facilities. Prepare guidance and reference documents for the field personnel to simplify the process to comply. Conduct annual environmental site assessments to ensure compliance. 
  • Prepare and conduct annual environmental training for the entire Division. Annually review the training package, updating the information based on issues raised and changes to the regulations from the previous year.
  • Creating and maintaining a safety conscious work environment by leading and influencing others to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices. 
  • Performs other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
  • Some overnight travel will be required.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in Environmental Sciences, Biology, Engineering, Business or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 
  • Typically possesses 5 or more years of experience implementing environmental compliance programs.
  • Typically possesses 2 or more years of project management experience or leading project teams.
  • Must have experience with environmental and/or regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience working with State or federal environmental regulatory agencies such as Certified Unified Program Agency (CUPA), (Department of Toxics Substance Control (DTSC), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Regional Water Quality Control Boards, and California Department of Fish & Game (CDFG). 
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams and implementing multiple complex projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to interface effectively and collaborate with clients, peers, project personnel and all levels of management to develop solutions and ensure stakeholder buy-in. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must have ability to travel periodically to the following Eastern Hydro locations: Kern, Bishop, Kaweah/Tule, and East End - Highland. 
  • Ability to maintain a safety conscious work environment by following Edison safety protocols and safe work practices. 
  • Must demonstrate the ability to integrate work across relevant areas, develop the business and services to enhance customer satisfaction and productivity, manage risks and safety appropriately, develop and execute business plans, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.
  • Must demonstrate effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation.
