Energy Manager

Clean Wisconsin is a nonprofit organization with offices in Madison and Milwaukee and a mission to protect and preserve Wisconsin’s clean water, clean air and natural heritage.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The organization is seeking an Energy Manager to advance this mission through maximizing energy efficiency, accelerating the transition to renewable energy, and reducing climate and air pollution.

The Energy Manager is an established, engaged, respected member of Wisconsin’s energy community and works closely with allies to achieve Clean Wisconsin’s goals. They take a leadership role in defining those goals, working closely with program, legal and communications staff and consulting regularly with other stakeholders. The Manager actively seeks opportunities to effectively advocate in state agencies, the Capitol, and through public communications. The essential core of this role is integrating energy expertise into Clean Wisconsin’s various advocacy pathways; however, a candidate with an interest and experience in air pollution may also take on air-related work. The Manager reports to the Climate, Energy & Air Program Director. This is a full-time position based in our Madison office.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Working with program and legal staff, research and draft responses to Public Service Commission requests for comment in policy-related dockets (such as
• Focus on Energy Quadrennial Review, Strategic Energy Assessment, and others that arise), utility rate cases and construction cases.
• Participate in state and regional energy-related working groups, such as the MISO Environmental Sector.
• Engage in utility discussions and participate in stakeholder groups shaping utility planning.
• Track and engage in issues concerning energy efficiency, utility-scale and distributed energy, transmission, interconnection, storage, and other energy-related topics.
• Monitor and incorporate the latest energy-related studies and resources into our advocacy.
• Support program staff and communications team to identify opportunities for organizing, media and public education around energy issues.

QUALIFICATIONS

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Familiarity, fluency and comfort with how state and regional energy systems work, state and federal regulation relevant to energy, and current issues facing the power sector and regulators.
• Analytical skills related to energy policy and economics and intimate familiarity with renewable energy and energy efficiency topics.
• Familiarity with key stakeholders in energy advocacy, paired with a demonstrated ability to forge strong relationships of trust with Wisconsin government officials, decision makers and stakeholders.
• Familiarity with energy-related goals, plans and current initiatives by Wisconsin government and utilities.
• Interdisciplinary thinking and grasp of the intersections between energy, air pollution, climate change, and environmental justice.
• Good listening skills and oral and written communication, and ability to represent Clean Wisconsin within appropriate governmental forums, with other advocates and occasionally before the media.
• Ability to perform in a multi-task environment and to prioritize work requirements; ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a long-term vision.
  Attention to detail
• Ability to interact effectively, appropriately and compassionately with staff and colleagues.
• Proficiency and comfort with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook and Zoom (or equivalents).

EDUCATION

An undergraduate degree and at least two years of experience in energy analysis or related field is preferred. A graduate degree in a relevant field including energy systems, law, or policy is a plus.

Salary range for the full-time position is $64,000-75,000 commensurate with skills and experience. A strong benefits package includes health and dental insurance, 403(b) retirement plan with a 6% employer match, and paid vacation and holidays.
