~ The Coastal Conservation League ("League") is a non-profit conservation organization that has been working with communities, elected officials, businesses, and citizen groups since 1989 to protect the natural environment and quality of life along the South Carolina coast. ~
Position Overview
The League seeks an Energy and Climate Program Director for its Charleston or Columbia, South Carolina office.
The Energy and Climate Program Director oversees all program and development work related to energy policy and regulation, including issue prioritization, strategic planning, and project work at the local, state, and federal level. The Director works closely with development staff on funding opportunities and manages the Utility Regulatory Specialist.
The ideal candidate must be a team player who enjoys working in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment and managing diverse projects in an intense high-pressure setting. Conservation League projects often require/need addressing after traditional work hours, and the Director must be willing to respond. He/she must demonstrate creative problem-solving skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, and constant attention to detail.

The Energy and Climate Program Director must travel frequently, up to 30% of the time. This is a full-time position with benefits located in our Charleston or Columbia, South Carolina office.
Responsibilities
The Energy and Climate Program Director will build and manage networks with citizens, businesses, and public officials. This work requires:
- Overseeing all energy and climate related projects (local, state, and federal; policy and regulatory)
- Writing grants, articles, and other publications
- Creating communication materials, including social media and web-based content
- Managing the Energy and Climate program budget
- Overseeing the program's project selection, strategic planning, and grassroots advocacy campaigns
- Leading the energy and climate program work, including:
- Legislative initiatives
- Regulatory initiatives
- Renewable energy issues
- Energy efficiency issues o Climate change issues
- Speaking at board meetings, conferences, legislative and regulatory hearings, and other events
- Working with a diverse set of interest groups
- Thinking critically and strategically about complex policy and regulatory issues
- Organizing public opposition and support at the community and state level
- Developing relationships with Conservation League Board members, donors, and members
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant field
- At least five years of experience working on issues related to energy policy and regulation
- At least five years of experience in advocacy or a related field of work
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Graduate degree in a relevant field
- Management experience
- The successful candidate must demonstrate passion for environmental advocacy work and enjoy working with and meeting people
- He/She must also have an appreciation for the Lowcountry
