~ Energy and Security Group (ESG) actively works across the world to expand access to energy and deploy on grid and off grid clean energy technologies in urban and rural environments to improve economic performance, promote national energy security, and advance resource sustainability. ~

Position Overview:

ESG is currently searching for senior professionals with technical expertise in the energy sector located in PNG or Asia region. Successful candidates will have over 9 years of experience in PNG or the Southeast Asia/Australasia regions and speak fluent English. ESG is looking to facilitate rural off-grid clean energy electrification and support energy sector regulatory reform in Papua New Guinea (PNG).

ESG is accepting CVs/Resumes for the following positions:

  • Senior Transmission & Distribution Expert – Responsible for developing plans, criteria, specifications, evaluations, design documents, performance assessments, and integrated system analysis for existing or planned transmission and distribution projects in highly remote and undeveloped environments. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and 9 years of experience in technical specialist roles on similar projects. Experience working on USAID or other donor agency funded projects in Southeast Asia or Australasia PNG in similar capacity is a plus.
  • Senior Mini-Grid Expert – Primarily responsible for bringing modern energy technologies to off-grid communities and households. The Expert will serve as a solutions architect, recommending technologies to deploy to communities after analyzing the technical and economic costs and benefits of installing various renewable energy technologies (hydro, solar, wind) for community power systems; and will review and recommend reform of government policies to enable commercialization of the renewable energy technology solutions. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and 9 years of experience in a similar role in the Australasia or PNG region. Experience working on USAID or other donor agency funded projects is a plus. Engineering background in energy and work with utilities a plus.
  • Senior Regulatory Expert – Will be responsible for executing an analysis of existing energy sector regulations, institutional frameworks, and policy to identify inefficiencies and barriers to effective oversight and sector development. The Senior Regulatory Expert will develop strategies to improve PNG Power’s institutional capacity and improve the efficacy of related regulatory institutions. Qualifications: Master’s degree and 9 years of experience in a similar role in the power sector.

Experience:

  • energy/power industry in South East Asia: 5 years (Preferred)
  • utility regulation in developing countries: 5 years (Preferred)
  • off-grid engineering: 5 years (Preferred)
  • energy policy in developing countries: 5 years (Preferred)

Senior Off-Grid Experts:

  • We are also currently accepting CVs/resumes for technical experts with the following skillsets:
  • Renewable energy technologies and particularly stand alone solar and storage, including "pico PV" (lanterns), plug-and-play home systems, and locally assembled solutions
  • Business models for off grid electrification, with an emphasis models that target last mile distribution to dispersed populations in remote rural areas
  • Consumer finance solutions for energy access (i.e., traditional lending by MFIs as well as pay-as-you-go (PAYG) and consumer payment models)
  • Services for private companies entering new markets and growing in early-stage markets, particularly with links to donor funding and leveraged private investments
  • Development of partnerships with private and public actors, particularly with emphasis on distribution networks reaching last mile customers in unnelectrified populations
  • Work experience in PNG in Rural Distribution and Rural Services Delivery with donors
