The Society for Conservation Biology seeks an Editor-in-Chief for the journal Conservation Biology, now in its 25th year.
Position Overview:
The EiC must be a subject expert who can maintain the journal as the most important forum for cutting-edge and practice-changing research in the conservation sciences, including both biological and social sciences.
This position has overall responsibility for the journal's editorial strategy and the performance of its Editorial Board in maintaining stringent quality standards. The position is responsible for the content published in the journal, and timely production of 6 issues per year.

- Develop and maintain networks within the international community of conservation scholars and practitioners to solicit high-quality research for the journal.
- Work with the Board of Governors to sustain journal vision and mission.
- Ensure that publishing decisions are fair, consistent, and timely across multidisciplinary submissions, and maintain the journal's high standard for acceptance.
- Strive for high geographic and topical diversity of handling editors and published papers.
The EiC will be supported by an experienced Managing Editor skilled in author and reviewer support, an experienced Senior Editor skilled in editing and manuscript preparation, and an experienced journal publishing manager at Wiley-Blackwell. Responsibility for evaluating submissions and assigning them for review is shared between the EiC and 4 Associate Editors.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate is a natural or social scientist working in a conservation-related field, with a solid publications record and some experience in designing and implementing conservation interventions. He or she must be committed to the journal's cross-disciplinary aims & scope. Substantial editorial experience is highly desirable; applicants should have good understanding of all aspects of the editorial process and of running an editorial team.
Compensation: Substantial Honorarium
