Lava Lake Ranch seeks an energetic and skilled individual for the summer of 2008. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a progressive company dedicated to land and wildlife conservation and sustainable food production.
Responsibilities:
The intern will work in the beautiful setting of the Pioneer Mountains near the world-class Sun Valley Resort and will assist with ecological monitoring data collection, riparian restoration projects, management of noxious weeds, scientific research, map production, and other land stewardship activities. The intern will be exposed to and involved in a range of key conservation and land management issues in the mountain west.
Assist with the collection of vegetation monitoring data in the Pioneer Mountain foothills, conduct land stewardship activities to assist with landscape scale conservation program ranging from riparian restoration to invasive weed management.
Qualifications:
Self-motivated individual who can work well independently and as part of a team, enthusiastic field worker, good physical condition, good communication and organizational skills, academic background in field biology, interest and experience in ecological monitoring and research work outdoors.
Either be enrolled in or have a degree in natural resources, botany, biology, ecology, environmental studies, wildlife management, or related field. Ability to identify plants of the Great Basin/Northern Rockies, familiarity with field research techniques, data collection procedures, central Idaho ecology, and use of GPS/GIS.
