The mission of the Watershed Action Alliance (WAA), a non-profit environmental coalition, is to protect and restore the watersheds of Southeastern Massachusetts through strategic collaboration and grassroots efforts. The Alliance also serves to strengthen the individual and collective capacity of its member groups, enabling them to be more effective watershed advocates.

Position Overview:

Watershed Action Alliance of Southeastern Massachusetts seeks an experienced E-newsletter developer, manager and social media expert to set up and distribute a prototype E-newsletter or E-magazine entitled Common Waters of Southeastern Massachusetts. The position is for the period of May to October, 2012, although additional funding is being sought. Preference will be given to Massachusetts residents.

Responsibilities:

  • Advise WAA on upgrades and costs for improving existing website (currently written in HTML), creating an integrated website and e-newsletter function, and periodically distributing the e-newsletter to WAA organization members and the general public.
  • Take written materials (provided by us) and edit it to short, understandable and interesting articles for the e-newsletter with links to more detailed pieces on WAA or member organization websites. [Subject matter will include water resources, conservation, restoration, recreation and events in southeastern Massachusetts.]
  • Manage email lists of WAA member organizations for distribution.
  • Achieve wider distribution via bloggers and social networking sites.

The Manager will report to the WAA Coordinator and work with him to identify and reach out to for-profit and non-profit websites and blogs to spread knowledge of WAA, CommonWaters, and issues of concern to us.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in management of all technical aspects of effective website development and maintenance as well as other related social media.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, including ability to simplify technical and scientific issues into readable content for general audiences.
  • Search engine optimization ability.
  • On-line layout and publication experience.
  • Familiarity with natural resources protection issues.
