Description
Wilkinson Ecological Design's mission is to protect and restore the integrity and biodiversity of the unique natural ecosystems of Cape Cod, the Islands, and Eastern Massachusetts through the use of safe and effective invasive plant management techniques and the restoration and establishment of native plant communities.
Position Overview:
This position involves the management and coordination of all permitting, consulting and implementation of restoration projects. This is a hybrid field and office position with day-to-day responsibilities which involve coordinating staff, collaborating with other senior staff and carrying out the goals set forth by the President of the Company.
Responsibilities include close coordination with the President, senior staff, restoration designers and environmental technicians. Be the first line of communication with many clients, professional representation at conservation commission hearings, and collaboration with colleagues at other professional offices. Regular duties involve overseeing all regulatory responsibilities of the company, effectively working as a leader on a team of other senior staff and providing oversight of projects during the implementation process.
This job will have exposure to occupational hazards such as tick-borne illnesses, biting and stinging insects, poison ivy, and working hard in a variety of adverse weather conditions all year.
Responsibilities:
Essential Job Functions:
- Update the President of the company with the status of active projects.
- Assist in new project development and other aspects of sales.
- Serve as the primary responsible employee regarding all Regulatory Deadlines during both the design and implementation phases.
- Schedule implementation projects in consultation with other senior staff on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis.
- Serve as the main point of contact with clients during the implementation phase.
- Maintain the exceptional quality of all work products during the permitting, client interaction and project implementation phases of work.
- Provide technical assistance to other staff to integrate conventional engineering standards as well as surveying and bioengineering standards.
- Develop new projects and expansion of the company's professional business network.
- Implement tasks and goals set forth directly by the President to other Senior Staff in a managerial role.
- Develop estimates, proposals and invoices using QuickBooks bookkeeping software.
- Collaborate with the Senior Restoration Designer (SRD) as the main point of contact with clients during the design and permitting phase as directed by the President.
- Design landscape construction, ecological restoration, and bioengineering construction details and collaborate with the SRD on comprehensive restoration plans.
- Conduct natural resource inventories and site analysis in preparation of design and development of land management plans and protocols.
- Conduct Restoration Design using various CAD software (e.i. AutoCAD, Vectorworks), Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch-up, GIS, GPS, and MS Office.
- Collaborate with President, Senior Restoration Designer, Project Managers, Business Manager and other staff to carry out the goals of the Company.
- Coordinate and be the main presenter at periodic Conservation Commission hearings and interact with clients in a professional manner.
- When working in the field, provide oversight to staff and subcontractors during all types of implementation work ranging from invasive plant management to coastal stabilization in the wetland buffers, resource areas and beyond.
- Comply with all necessary safety rules, regulations and standards.
- Always be timely and have dependable attendance.
Marginal Job Functions:
Responsibilities and/or important duties performed occasionally or in addition to the essential duties of the position:
- Conduct planting, herbicide application and conduct other plant management activities.
- Use a variety of measuring devices including handheld Global Positioning System (GPS) devices.
- Use of Laser Transit Level.
- Lift material and or packages of up to 50 pounds.
Qualifications:
Required Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid DOT Medical Card
- Massachusetts Driver's License
- Massachusetts Pesticide Applicator License (to be acquired within 12 months of work commencement)
- Hoisting and Hydraulics License (to be acquired within 6 months of work commencement)
Knowledge, Ability, and Other Job Requirements:
- Experience with Conservation Commission procedures and regulations.
- Familiar with landscape construction, ecological restoration, and bioengineering construction.
- Familiar with Cape Cod's native plants.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Vectorworks, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch-up, GIS, GPS, Microsoft Office and QuickBooks software.
- Experience working with hand-held landscaping tools.
- Ability to work outdoors in a variety of adverse weather conditions outside all year.
- Ability to efficiently manage one's time, work independently and manage other staff.
- Ability to work productively as a team with co-workers.
- Excellent writing, communication, strategic thinking, and "people" skills.
