WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN YOU:
The Director of Process Engineering is experienced with fermentation, gas/liquid fermentation, hydrogen-based processes, biotech separation processes, and other related processes. They are responsible for the safe design, operation, and scale-up of gas-based bioprocesses for the company. This role will play a significant part in optimizing, scaling up, and ultimately commercializing the Air Protein carbon-negative technology.
What you will be doing:
-
- Optimize existing Air Protein Gas Fermentation and protein isolation process to achieve desired economic outcomes
- Lead engineering design and scale-up efforts for commercialization of the Air Protein process including reactor design efforts to accomplish near and future scale-up
- Serve as a hydrogen/gas subject matter expert (SME) to set/execute design standards that achieve safe and reliable operation
- Work cross-functionally to achieve sterile, food-safe designs in existing and future facilities
- Manage all internal and external (contract) engineering efforts
- Lead commissioning and SOP-development efforts of existing and future facilities
- Lead Process Safety Management (PSM) for the company
What you should have:

- Tenacity in achieving goals
- Skills in project planning, defining program and task objectives, experimental design, resource allocation, scheduling, budgeting, and tracking
- Demonstrable experience with biofermentation and preferably gas-based biofermentation, PSM-regulated processes, sanitary/sterile design, and preferably FDA-regulated processes
- Superlative communication skills
- Ability to troubleshoot and manage operations
- Ability to work cross-functionally and collaboratively
- Ability to motivate teams
- Demonstrate strong business and financial acumen with an understanding of the implications of new technology development processes
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to act proactively
- Experience in gas fermentation or gas bioprocessing is an asset
- Experience in the design and simulation of gas transfer in chemical systems or bioreactors is an asset
What you must have:
-
- BS in Engineering degree with 15+ years of experience OR PhD ChemE with 10+ years of experience
- Experience leading engineering teams
- Experience with gas/liquid reactor systems
- Expertise in manufacturing, biotechnology, and/or refinery operations.
- Experience in managing hazardous gasses and high-pressure systems involving hydrogen, methane, ethylene, syngas, or other flammable gasses
Compensation
- $183,000 - $239,000 a year
