Director of Major Gifts, Fundraising

Rails-to-Trails Conservancy (RTC), a national nonprofit organization, seeks a Director of Major Gifts/Fundraising.

Responsibilities:

• significantly increasing philanthropic contributions from major donors including individuals, foundations and corporations;
• create and implement a multi-year strategy for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donor prospects and current donors with the VP of Development/Communications;
• team with program department and TrailLink.com team to prepare letters of inquiry, proposals, progress reports, and budgets;
• process grants, sponsorship acknowledgements and implementing recognition activities;
• donor and prospect research;
• Create/maintain master calendar for grant submission and reporting deadlines;
• cultivation and solicitation mailings;
• and foundation, corporation and major donor cultivation and stewardship visits.

Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree required;
• must possess superior writing and editing skills, with a minimum of 3 years experience in working with major donors, developing cultivation strategies and soliciting and closing $10,000+ gifts;
• strong team player with the leadership skills to motivate others to be the same;
• Must have excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage people and projects to achieve multiple deadlines;
• strong interpersonal skills;
• knowledge of major donor development and foundations is essential.
• And knowledge of conservation, land use or transportation issues a plus.
• Travel required.
