Duties:
Reporting directly to the CEO, this position is responsible for the overall financial management, planning, systems and controls for BSR, a non-profit business association with an annual budget of nearly $8 million.

The Director coordinates the development and execution of the organizations annual budget and financial policies and manages the accounting staff.

ACCOUNTING

  • Develop and review accounting system design and structured transactions.
  • Prepare monthly narrative for senior management and board of directors after financial statement review.
  • Evaluate check requests for compliance to budget and policies and sign checks for weekly check runs.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with auditors.
  • Review of annual tax filings for BSR and coordinate with external parties of BSR certification and tax exempt status.
  • Design and provide regular managerial accounting reports to grants and project managers, as well as to member services and conference unit leaders.
  • Work with Controller on ensuring timely and accurate monthly closings.

PLANNING AND BUDGET

  • Direct annual budgeting process and prepare annual budget.
  • Support Vice Presidents and Directors in analyzing and managing their budgets.
  • Develop and implement forecasting tools and reports.
  • Conduct monthly assessment and forecast of organizations financial performance against budget and financial goals.
  • Monitor unbilled and aged receivables.

Manage cash flow needs with respect to unrestricted and restricted net assets.

GENERAL FINANCE

  • Direct, design and oversee implementation of financial related systems, in collaboration with IT Director.
  • Provide ongoing financial management support and training to staff.
  • Manage treasury investments.
  • Manage cash flow needs with respect to unrestricted and restricted net assets.
  • Review major vendor proposals and significant consulting contracts.
  • Analyze and manage organizations insurance requirements.
  • Review fee-for-service contracts for taxability.
  • Oversee building lease and management issues and leasehold improvement projects.
  • Serve as primary liaison to legal counsel in addressing legal issues e.g. copyright, antitrust, governing instruments, partnerships, licensing etc.
  • Direct annual filing of state regulatory compliance and business reports.

GRANTS and CONTRACTS ADMINISTRATION

  • Review grant proposals and government contracts and approve grant budgets
  • Support negotiation of and manage major sub-contracts for work related to consulting, grant and contracts, membership benefits and any other BSR products and services.
  • Coordinate and prepare grant financial reports with grant managers.
  • Monitor and regulate funder requirements and stay up to date with regulatory standards.
  • Direct the preparation of monthly and annual government grant reports including ACH draws, SF 272, minority vendor reports.

POLICY & PROCEDURES

  • Recommend, review and maintain policies, systems and procedures that have impact accounting controls and financial management.
  • Direct the communication and training of accounting staff and general staff on these policies, systems and procedures as necessary.

GENERAL MANAGEMENT

  • As a unit Director, participate in BSR planning and development activities as required

As a unit director manage the accounting staff to help them accomplish BSRs, the Finance units and their own individual goals

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of business/finance experience, have at least 5 years experience in a non-profit environment and extensive experience in consulting and project management.
  • MBA with an emphasis on Finance or Accounting or CPA/CFA certification highly desirable.
  • Must have knowledge of 501(c)(3) and government funded accounting and tax requirements; experience with international accounting requirements desirable.
  • Must have proficient and active knowledge of MSOffice for presentation to BOD and Staff meetings.
  • Must have some hand-on experience on a mid-sized Accounting software (ie Solomon, Great Plains, and other multi-user systems).
  • Significant prior management, budget and planning experience.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • A meticulous attention to detail and strong commitment to customer service.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in collaborative settings.
