The Natural Trails and Waters Coalition works to protect and restore all public lands and waters from the damage caused by dirt bikes, jet skis and all other off-road vehicles.
To achieve its mission, the Coalition uses legislative, administrative, legal, media, and grassroots strategies targeted at those who manage or make decisions or policies regarding our state and federal public lands.
Job Description:
The Director provides the vision and leadership to guide Natural Trails and its national campaign. This includes developing strategy and direction for and overseeing implementation of the campaign as well as supervising staff. As the Coalition's senior staff person, the Director also serves as the primary spokesman and point of contact for the media, congressional offices, departments and agencies, and other outside organizations and individuals.
Job Qualifications:
- A record of success directing grassroots advocacy campaign work in a highly complex, multi-layered, intellectually charged work environment.
- Strong understanding and knowledge in environmental advocacy, public policy, political issues, media outlets, grassroots organizing, and/or public lands issues.
- A proven record of leadership of and effective work in partnerships and coalitions.
- A strong background in federal, state and local governments and in public policy processes and institutions.
- Strong writing skills and the ability to speak effectively in public.
- Extensive media experience.
- Strong organizational and management skills, even under pressure.
Priority Responsibilities:
- Develop goals, strategies, and tactics for the Coalition's national campaigns;
- Provide overall direction concerning implementation of core campaigns;
- Ensure communication between Coalition staff, Steering Committee, member groups and other partners;
- Provide direct supervision of Coalition staff;
- Serve as the primary representative of the Coalition with member groups, potential partners, members of Congress, federal agencies, the press and others;
- Manage Coalition budget;
- Participate in fundraising activities including: meetings with funders, grant-writing, reporting.
The ideal candidate would have one or more of the following leadership characteristics:
- A solid professional presence and proven grassroots advocacy campaign experience;
- Strong intellect, creativity, drive, and initiative;
- Superb organizational and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to diplomatically prioritize sometimes conflicting demands;
- Considerable patience and a sense of humor.
