The Louisiana Bucket Brigade is a 501(c)(3) environmental health and justice organization working with communities that neighbor the state’s oil refineries and chemical plants.

We use grassroots action to create an informed, healthy society that holds the petrochemical industry and government accountable for the true costs of pollution to hasten the transition from fossil fuels. Our vision is a Louisiana that is a healthy, prosperous, pollution-free, and just state where people and the environment are valued over profit.

Purpose of Position:

The Louisiana Bucket Brigade’s success depends on high-quality operations and fundraising. The purpose of the Deputy Director is to direct and supervise the administrative, finance and fundraising staff so that these systems operate effectively and to their potential. 

  • Reports to: Executive Director  
  • Supervises: Development Director, Administrative Director, Chief Financial Officer 
  • Job Status: Full-time (40 hours/week), some nights and weekends required

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1.  Administration
    1. Work with Administrative and Development Directors to develop and maintain quarterly work plans and calendars of annual activities, including calendars regarding budgeting, fundraising, annual reviews, staff training and engagement
    2. Supervise the Development Director and assure the development team is setting and reaching budget goals.
    3. Supervise the Administrative Director to assure that organizational policies are maintained, followed and team members are adhering to organizational values and vision.
    4. Work with the Executive and Administrative Directors to create appropriate staffing levels, frameworks for performance management, and structures for support and accountability.
    5. Lead the organization's diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives
    6. Manage the organization’s fiscal sponsor relationships
    7. Work with the Executive Director to develop board committees, recruit members and hold regular meetings
    8. Lead strategic planning, including the planning process, implementation and follow through
  2. Financial management
    1. Supervise the Chief Financial Officer and assure that procedures are adhered to,  financial calendars are maintained and timelines met  
    2. Work with staff on a monthly basis to make sure they are involved in the creation, monitoring and management of their budgets. 
    3. Implement non profit accounting systems - including proper allocation to programs, administration and fundraising - and assure that the systems are consistently adhered to.
    4. Collaborate with CFO to create annual budget. 
    5. Review year to date budgets on a monthly basis  and assure smooth financial functioning.
    6. Develop system for tracking grassroots lobbying allocation
  3. Volunteer Management
    1. Recruit volunteers and integrate them into staff work
    2. Train/educate LABB staff on how to work with volunteers
    3. Develop a volunteer orientation and recognition program
    4. Create a volunteer team that represents LABB’s commitment to an inclusive work environment with people of varied ages, races, ethnicities, and family backgrounds
    5. Develop a volunteer tracking system to document hours and in-kind contributions
    6. Identify volunteers to serve on board committees
  4. Participate in organizational events
    1. Participate in staff meetings, team building events 
    2. Complete annual DEI hours, including required staff training
    3. Use allotted training money to improve skills and participate in community events and stay informed on organizational activities
    4. Adhere to organizational Values Statement
    5. Complete fundraising metrics reports and other development activities as requested

Experience and Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • At least five years of non-profit management experience 
  • Ability to multi-task and manage autonomously
  • Candidates should have a demonstrated commitment to cultural competency, including experience in working effectively with those belonging to groups of varied backgrounds, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, nationality, sexual orientation, religion, language, ability, age, and socioeconomic status. 
  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in organizational settings
  • Proven ability to work with efficiency, flexibility, and are results-driven
  • Strong interpersonal skiljazzhls

Requirements: 

  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and able to provide proof of vaccination status. 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license

Compensation

  • Salary: $90,000 annually
  • Benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k), Paid vacation, Paid time-off, Training & Education
