Job Description
The Deputy Director leads in the overall administration and operation of the organization with the Executive Director. The Deputy Director supports achievement of organizational goals through the development and implementation of polices, plans and procedures. The Deputy Director provides support and leadership to staff to plan, coordinate and deliver programs and projects. The Deputy Director supervises and supports the Operations Director in coordinating and overseeing daily operations while ensuring EcoWorks’ compliance with external regulations and internal policies.
Responsibilities
Administration:
- Develops and implements Annual Work Plan and monitors attainment of objectives;
- Develops organizational policies and standard operating procedures and oversees implementation;
- Ensures compliance with regulations and internal policies, particularly for worker safety;
- Generates program reports for the Executive Director, grantors or other stakeholders; and
- Assists in budgeting and monitoring expenses.
Human Resource Management:
- Recruits and screens applicants for staff and provides oversight of Program Manager for crew;
- Coordinates the hiring process including interviews, onboarding and orientation of staff and provides
- oversight of Program Manager for crew;
- Develops and oversees the performance evaluation process for staff and crew;
- Develops human resources and talent management strategies; and
- Ensures timely and accurate timesheet submittal for all staff to EcoWorks accountant.
Program Management:
- Provides oversight and quality control of workforce development and training programs;
- Develops concepts and guidelines for new programs; and
- Develops and nurtures relationships with potential employers for EcoWorks program participants.
Operations:
- Provides quality control and support for daily operations and staff with the Operations Director;
- Coordinates closely with EcoWorks staff to meet EcoWorks work obligations to public and private clients;
- Provides leadership in development and implementation of data management support systems; and
- Manages the implementation of various technologies used for the day-to-day operations of the
- organization.
Marketing:
- Provides fundraising support; and
- Supports and leads organizational marketing efforts, events, and public outreach and education.
Qualifications
Required:
- B.A. in human resource management, business administration or related field;
- Proven experience as assistant director, business manager, operations manager or other similar role;
- Knowledge of relevant regulations and quality standards for MD businesses and for the industry;
- Proficient in MS Office, Google Suite, database applications and software;
- Outstanding communication and public speaking skills;
- Excellent organizational, time management and leadership skills;
- Aptitude in problem-solving and ability to multi-task and prioritize;
- Well organized with attention to detail;
- Understanding of legalities of business law in relation to HR and employment rights and how to apply them within daily operations;
- Comfortable providing oversight and direction in the field, under varying weather conditions and on uneven terrain;
- Self-motivated and able to work independently;
- Valid driver’s license; and
- Personal vehicle for work use and mileage reimbursement.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of nonprofit management;
- Experience with fundraising and grant management;
- Knowledge of environmental industry and/or landscaping;
- Experience with marketing including graphic design, web-site, and overall promotion; and
- Experience with social media management.
Compensation
- Salary is in the mid-50s.
