~ For more than 50 years, the Conservancy of Southwest Florida has been a leading environmental advocacy organization dedicated to protecting the water, land, wildlife and future of our five-county area. ~

To do that, the Conservancy uses the synergy of four teams to meet this mission. These teams include: Science and Research, Policy and Advocacy, Environmental Education, and Wildlife Rehabilitation. This combination of expertise is unique to the Conservancy and enjoys a widespread reputation for excellence. 

Position Overview

The Community Engagement and Marketing Coordinator works within the Department of Communications and Marketing to develop strategies to engage and recruit a coalition of engaged community members through community outreach, events and activities. The coordinator works externally to build strong strategic relationships and community partnerships to encourage community participation in Conservancy endeavors and activities.

Coordinates and develops annual outreach plans; maintains and develops relationships with collaborative partners. Builds and maintains tracking system to gauge engagement and support. Supports Department of Marketing and Communications responsibilities including but not limited to, writing press releases, maintaining reporter database, updating community calendars, supporting social media and digital updates, proofreading, facilitating media interviews as appropriate, recommend advertising placement and evaluation of ad buys, take photos as needed and maintain photo/video database.

Responsibilities

  • The Community Engagement and Marketing Coordinator coordinates the Conservancy’s annual and long-term strategies focused on acquisition of new members, donors and supporters, contributing to Conservancy’s attendance, membership and revenue goals and helping to build a dynamic constituency of engaged supporters.
  • Cultivate community interest by attending (and when appropriate, speaking at) local and regional events, activities, meetings, including, but not limited to social service clubs, HOA’s, golf/tennis clubs, concierge groups, chamber meetings, etc. in the 5-county area.
  • Must be available some early mornings, nights and weekends to attend events and/or give presentations on behalf of the organization.
  • Develop an understanding of Conservancy mission, programs and revenue generating offerings with a goal of securing community involvement. This includes but is not limited to growing: Nature Center visitation, Conservancy memberships, volunteers, event attendance, kayak rentals and Good Fortune II eco-cruises. The coordinator works collaboratively with fellow team members to support all marketing, communications, community outreach and philanthropy efforts within the organization with a special focus on community engagement.
  • The Community Engagement Coordinator will achieve strong growth in acquisitions, awareness and retention.
  • Will serve as a public face on behalf of the organization; will be comfortable with public speaking and presenting.
  • Will develop and implement programs and events to build awareness, grow membership, increase engagement and loyalty.
  • Conduct ongoing market research to continually improve the organizational offerings.
  • Work closely with the Marketing and Communications team on all membership materials to ensure there is appropriate and consistent use of Conservancy brand.
  • Work closely with the Development and Marketing and Communication teams on strategies for the acquisition and retention of new donors and members.
  • Identify and suggest strategies for continuous system and process improvements to create the best guest experience and an efficient work environment.
  • Working with the Development and Marketing and Communications team to support organization’s efforts for concept, scheduling and execution of supporter acquisition and renewal via direct response channels (direct mail, digital and social media), including overall strategy, audience segmentation, testing and, and results reporting and analysis, in partnership with the Membership and Marketing teams.
  • Ensures that key information is tracked and can be strategically used to drive engagement and growth in member/donor/activist constituencies.
  • Works closely with the Development team to identify members who may be major gift prospects, key volunteers or possess other special skills which could be advantageous to the Conservancy and its mission.
  • Monitors progress of budgeted revenues/expenses.
  • Sets, executes, evaluates and reports weekly progress toward membership acquisition, renewals, upgrades and annual support, volunteer recruitment, Good Fortune II ridership and Kayak rentals.
  • Works in the Welcome Center on a regular basis to understand, support and analyze guest services and membership sales in that area. Helps evaluate impact of advertising and marketing on attendance and sales of Guest Services activities (Good Fortune, Kayak rentals, etc.)
  • Supports public relations work including press releases, calendaring events and supporting media on site.
  • Assist with Development and Marketing Events, as appropriate.
  • Maintain a positive customer service demeanor at all times.
  • Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills.
  • Strong public presentation skills.
  • Adhere to the AFP Donor Bill of Rights.
  • Other duties related to the goals of the Department of Marketing and Communications as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, with 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible direct mail, digital and email marketing experience, ideally with a membership and/or annual fund program.
  • Experience in public-facing role preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of methods, practices and procedures for acquiring, growing, retaining and upgrading membership and annual support across channels.
  • Demonstrated ability to take primary responsibility for diverse number of projects and to complete them in a timely manner with limited supervision.
  • Ability to think strategically, and to anticipate and orchestrate next steps.
  • Excellent computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office; Raiser’s Edge experience preferred.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to initiate and build relationships with supporters.
  • Ability to maintain the highest standards of professional conduct and integrity and exhibit mature judgment, discretion and professionalism in researching and communicating information
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of staff in a team environment.
  • A passion for protecting the environment and advancing the mission of the organization.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from 4-year college or university, plus 3 to 5 years related experience as a marketing, membership, or fundraising professional and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
