Overview

The League to Save Lake Tahoe is searching for an exceptionally organized, detail-oriented, and creative individual to join our fun and growing team of environmental enthusiasts and experts. As a key member of the Communications team, the Communications Coordinator will lead and coordinate many aspects of the department’s day-to-day needs, including writing, editing, proof reading and coordinating timelines for the organization’s overarching communications calendar. The Communications Coordinator will also be responsible for collaborating with our Philanthropy, Community Engagement, and Policy teams to help bring our message to a growing and diverse audience. 

Note: This position will report directly to the Communications Director.

The League has a hybrid work structure that does not require employees to be in the office daily. While we prefer this position to be based in the Tahoe Basin, we are willing to consider remote employment.

What the position involves:

Copywriting and Editing

  • Using League messaging and often technical source material, craft original, persuasive, and compelling written works for external and internal communication, including press releases, blog posts, social media posts, flyers, collateral, and editorials.
  • Serve as an internal liaison to our Philanthropy team to help write persuasive fundraising materials such as thank you letters, solicitations, and campaign collateral.
  • Write copy for use in the League’s merchandise marketing efforts, including product descriptions for the online store, social media promotions, and paid ads.
  • Serve as one of the League’s editors and its lead proofreader, ensuring outgoing communications are on message, consistent, succinct, and error-free.

Website Management

  • Oversee the organization’s website on a day-to-day or as-needed basis to ensure content is fresh, engaging, and accurate. This will include regular audits of webpages to check if they’re functioning properly and up to date.
  • Updating and building pages from scratch, including crafting SEO key phrases and meta descriptions.
  • Manage the website’s backend to ensure all apps and plugins are updated and the CMS is running smoothly. Identify and install new tools as needed to ensure strong UI and UX.
  • Work directly with outside vendors to address website errors or make enhancements.
  • Communications Material Development – Presentations, Email Blasts, Forms, etc.
  • Use League-approved messaging and assets to develop external communications, including e-newsletters and presentations for use by League staff.
  • Draft and deploy online opinion research using tools such as Survey Monkey, Google Forms, Doodle, etc.

Qualifications

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Ability to communicate succinctly, persuasively, and eloquently in both speech and particularly in writing.
  • Strong grasp of AP style book and rules.
  • Efficient and error-free editorial and proofreading skills.
  • Presentation design skills using platforms such as Keynote, PowerPoint, and Google Slides.
  • Fluency in CMS management (e.g. WordPress, Wix, Squarespace) and integration with apps and plugins.
  • Proficiency with HTML.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with computers and software programs, including Windows Office.
  • Flexibility to occasionally work weekends and evenings as needed.
  • Willingness and physical ability to work outdoors, potentially in inclement weather conditions.
  • Some travel may be required.

Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Familiarity with Lake Tahoe environmental and policy issues. 
  • A passion for environmental conservation and the League’s mission to Keep Tahoe Blue.
  • Love of the outdoors.
  • Experience with digital photography and editing.
  • Experience in graphic design using Canva and the Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Experience in digital marketing and e-commerce.
  • Proficiency in Spanish.

League-specific requirements:

  • Employees are required to have a vehicle that is in good working order, proof of valid driving license, non-expired vehicle registration, and effective insurance coverage. Travel around the Tahoe  Basin, Bay Area, Reno, and Sacramento may be required. 
  • Position requires some physical activity such as bending, stooping, carrying, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

Salary range:

  • $60,000 – $75,000 DOE
