About the Lab:
The Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance (The Lab) is a public-private initiative that identifies, develops, and launches cutting-edge climate finance instruments. It aims to drive billions of dollars of private investment into climate change mitigation and adaptation in emerging economies. Since launching in 2014, The Lab has launched 55 innovative financial instruments that have collectively mobilized more than USD 3.2 billion in investment.
Over the years the Lab has launched three regional programs—India, Brazil and Southern Africa—to focus on these specific geographies’ potential to scale-up private sector investment in renewable energy, energy efficiency, climate adaptation, and/or sustainable land-use of climate finance related products.
Position Summary
We are seeking a talented and driven Communications Associate to support external communications for one of our flagship programs, the Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance (www.ClimateFinanceLab.org). The successful candidate will also support communications for CPI’s global work.
Candidates must have outstanding interpersonal skills, comfort working in English, experience in media relations, and the ability to translate economics and financial language into clear, concise, and accessible insights. You will also believe in communications as a critical component to influence decision-makers at the highest levels, a strong, demonstrated interest in sustainable business, finance, and economics, and dedication to expanding the Lab’s impact during this critical time in addressing climate change.
Reporting to the Senior Communications Associate based in Brazil, you will work closely with colleagues across CPI offices worldwide as well as directly with external stakeholders and media.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Includes the following and other duties as assigned:
- Create and edit materials such as presentations, fact sheets, videos, blog posts, newsletters, and marketing materials targeted at multiple global and local audiences, including private investors, policymakers, and finance innovators, as well as support analysts in developing and editing research products, reports, and other high-quality CPI products.
- Support the development of media pitches and carry out outreach efforts; place stories in top-tier global and regional business and financial media; support the production of press materials and help develop story angles that provide value to journalists; monitor and track press coverage; identify relevant journalists and build relationships with them.
- Manage and maintain the Lab’s social media accounts; prepare social media packets; schedule social media for events and publications; develop and execute plans to grow our broader social media presence and number of followers.
- Create and update content for the Lab’s website; ensure content is shareable, search-friendly, and allows for a great user experience; work with external web developers to identify and prioritize issues and improvements on the CPI website.
- Support CPI’s contact relationship management process; assist teams in making the best use of the CRM platform; ensure good usage practices; routinely clean and improve available data.
- Help measure and assess comms KPIs; rely on analytics to understand causality and drivers of indicators; use experimentation to improve communications processes and effectiveness.
- Contribute to developing and maintaining a knowledge base of reference materials and information for CPI staff, including file and wiki management; train team members, including leadership, in improving knowledge management processes.
- Assist with other communications activities as needed, including event management and business development, and stakeholders’ engagement.
Professional Qualifications
- Progressive experience or demonstrable equivalent skills in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, policy, economics, international development, or related field or equivalent experience
Competencies & Personal Attributes:
- Excellent English writing and editing skills, with the ability to restructure and copyedit. Ability to turn economics and finance knowledge into accessible insights for investors, policymakers, media, and other stakeholders.
- Experience writing in various formats – web, social media, print publications, briefing papers, press releases, etc.
- Experience with media outreach and public relations. Experience with global and Brazil, LatAm, or Africa media is desirable. Experience with the financial press is also desirable.
- Experience in event management and managing stakeholder relationships.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational, project management, and prioritization skills, and an ability to work independently under pressure and on tight deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to navigate a cross-cultural, global working environment
- Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite. Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite, Airtable, and CMS/WordPress is desirable.
- Graphic design/data visualization skills are desirable.
Title and Compensation
- CPI is hiring for one position immediately.
- Title and competitive compensation will be based on experience and dependent on the successful candidate’s location
- We are seeking someone based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and are also open to outstanding candidates based remotely. You must have the right to live and work in your preferred location.
- The position may require international travel.
