Position Overview

The Power and Energy Systems Department within the Energy and Environment Science & Technology (EES&T) Directorate at Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a mid-career staff member to enhance its clean energy integration, power systems development, and modeling capabilities. You will support INL's hydropower, wind, solar, and power systems integration programs.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ideation, planning, coordination, implementation, and dissemination of projects within the above outlined domains. You will prepare and contribute to technical reports, publications, and presentations at national technical meetings and project reviews with program sponsors. You will support INL's Power and Energy Systems Department leadership in meeting DOE/DOD/industry stakeholder expectations, milestones and deliverables, and internal reporting metrics.
  • You will be expected to lead research projects, drive technical capability development, and interface with research sponsors. You should have prior experience working both individually and in teams in a fast-paced, high-tempo research environment. Demonstrated ability to lead the design and implementation of research projects is required. Excellent written and verbal communications skills are also required. This position may involve some work outside normal office hours and some travel.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who can acquire and maintain at least an L clearance to support work across programs at INL.
  • EES&T's role and mission is to develop and advance clean, smart and secure energy systems essential to national security, economic prosperity, and environmental sustainability. It embodies science and engineering functions that contribute enabling technologies for today's national energy portfolio. It also augments the country's technical ability to collaborate on and overcome critical energy and water challenges that already impact tomorrow's energy choices.
  • This position supports and integrates actions, activities, projects, & initiatives of the EES&T Directorate's Integrated Mission Plan and other INL research, development, demonstration, and deployment (RDD&D) efforts.

Qualifications

  • Masters in Power Systems Engineering or related field plus a minimum of 3 years’ experience or PhD Degree in Power Systems Engineering or related field plus a minimum of 2 years’ experience. Preference will be given to candidates with a masters, plus at least six years of post-graduate school experience; or candidates with a PhD, and at least two years of post-graduate school experience. Appropriate position grade will be selected based upon duration and depth of relevant experience.
  • Beyond graduate school, you must have demonstrated experience and knowledge of relevant industry or U.S. Federal Government sponsors, for example clean energy developers, owners/operators, Department of Energy program offices, and/or Department of Defense.
  • Demonstrated technical understanding, research collaborations, and professional recognition in relevant field is required. This can be demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications, patents, technical reports, or other forms of professional recognition. Demonstrated proposal and project leadership experience is also required.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is highly desired.
