Fairfax Water is Virginia's largest water utility, serving one out of every five Virginians who obtain their water from public utilities. Fairfax Water is currently accepting applications for the position of Civil/Environmental Engineer III.
Responsibilities:
Typical responsibilities include:
- Designing and modifying the more complicated features of water supply facilities including treatment plants, pumping stations, and maintenance facilities.
- Preparing/reviewing contract and construction documents including drawing and specifications for water utility related projects.
- Managing and directing project related work of design consultants, including coordinating review of milestone submittals, permitting, budget, and schedule, from preliminary engineering through bid phase.
- Providing limited guidance to the Engineers I/II.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience Requirements:
Graduation from and accredited 4-year college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering and a minimum of 8 years progressively responsible related engineering experience in the design of public water facilities.
Qualified applications should also have:
- Considerable knowledge of project management, hydraulics, construction techniques, surveying, mechanics, engineering economics and local permitting.
- Considerable knowledge in Invitation for Bids (IFB) and Request for Proposals (RFP) processes and procedures.
- Proficient in the use of computers including scheduling and spreadsheet software.
- Strong written and communication skills and ability to multi-task.
- Through knowledge of the theory and practice of civil engineering relative to the design and construction of public water supply facilities.
- License as a Professional Engineer by the Commonwealth of Virginia, or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
