Business Outreach Assistant

Cascadia Consulting Group, an environmental management consulting firm based in Seattle, Washington, is seeking an outreach assistant to contact area businesses and provide technical assistance on resource conservation issues.

This full-time job involves working as part of a team of professionals to assist businesses in preventing waste, conserving water, reducing rainwater runoff, and "greening" their buildings and sites. The job involves phone calls, site visits, other fieldwork, presentations to businesses and public-sector clients, and analysis of data.

Primary job responsibilities for this position include: 

• Conducting business outreach phone calls (including cold calls) and telephone recycling surveys;
• Providing assistance to businesses on pollution prevention, water conservation, surface water management, and/or sustainable building topics;
• Clearly translating complex information into lay terms for presentation to general audiences;
• Using Microsoft Access and Excel to manage data, analyze results, and generate reports; and
• Conducting other project work and duties, as needed, including administrative assistance.

The ideal candidate will possess:  

•  Excellent interpersonal skills, be a "people person," and enjoy making phone calls and presentations to businesses and other audiences;
• Prior experience working with businesses and/or providing technical assistance;
• Ability to work effectively with businesses in diverse communities and underserved areas - existing contacts in such communities or businesses are a plus;
• Experience or interest in pollution prevention, water conservation, stormwater management, and/or sustainable building;
• Strong written and oral communication skills;
• Initiative, energy, creativity, and a sense of humor;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, and other MS Office programs;
• Ability to conduct multiple projects simultaneously and thrive in a fast-paced work environment; and
• An undergraduate degree, preferably including coursework in business, economics, environmental studies, and/or related fields.

Expected annual salary range is in the high 20s to mid-30s, depending on experience; compensation is competitive within the environmental arena. For the right candidate, this position has opportunities for growth and progressively increasing responsibility. (Opportunities for a summer internship may also be possible, particularly for an MBA candidate or other graduate student.)
