Alion Science & Technology is actively involved in working on the technical challenges associated with the development of advanced energy technologies, to further the US goals of achieving energy independence and reducing the production of environmentally harmful waste streams, including CO2.

Our work in this area spans the full gamut of energy generation technologies from nuclear, to clean coal, to various renewable sources such as wind, ocean, and biofuels, as well as innovative approaches to improving energy efficiency.

Position Overview:

We are currently looking to significantly expand our work in the areas of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. To further these objectives, we are looking for a senior-level individual to work with various groups within the company to develop relevant business opportunities, with particular emphasis on interfacing with and marketing DOE Fossil Energy (FE) and Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) organizations, both in Washington DC and at their key National Labs, NREL and NETL.

Responsibilities:

  • Gasification and fast pyrolysis technologies suitable for coal and/or biofuels feedstocks
  • Energy conversion technologies involving for example systems based on Organic Rankine and modified Kalina Cycles
  • Development of Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems based on these cycles and biofuel feedstock
  • Oxy-fuel combustion technologies to reduce waste gas volume for CO2 sequestration
  • Vertical wind turbine technology
  • Ocean thermal energy technology

Develop a knowledge of current and future DOE (and other government agency) funding opportunities suitable for development of the technologies identified above. Current examples include ARPA-E and various Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs) in Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.

Develop familiarity with the key technology partners with whom Alion has a teaming relationship in the technologies identified above.

Work with key Alion staff to promote Alion's capabilities and interests in these areas with senior management at DOE FE and DOE EERE as well as at NETL and NREL.

Work with Alion Government Affairs staff to pursue congressional support for selected Alion-led ventures, as appropriate.

Provide technical consultation to Alion management to develop most effective technical and business approaches to these opportunities, helping to integrate Alion's extensive engineering, modeling, and regulatory capabilities, as well as those of potential teaming partners.

Assist in developing presentations, marketing materials, and proposals related to the above.

Qualifications:

The selected individual should have a significant number of the following qualifications:
