Founded in 1996, BonTerra Consulting is a certified woman-owned small business (WBE/SBE) that provides and conducts a variety of environmental planning consulting services, including California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation; natural resources and biological surveys; habitat restoration planning; regulatory services and permitting; cultural resources management; air quality, climate change, and noise analyses; and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) analyses and mapping to public- and private-sector clients throughout Southern and Central California.

Position Overview:

BonTerra's Biological Monitors will be required to work long days (12 hours) in the field in the foothills of Southern California and must be comfortable with field conditions. Biological Monitors may need to conduct pre-construction clearance surveys and/or nesting bird surveys.

Typical responsibilities for a Biological Monitor include overseeing construction activities to ensure that biological and environmental protection measures are properly implemented during construction; preparing reports and documentation of project progress; and resolving conflicts with project implementation as they arise.

Qualifications:

Background Required:

  • 0-2 years of fieldwork experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Botany, Wildlife Biology, or a related field

Knowledge:

  • Working knowledge of common plant and wildlife species in the Southern California area
  • Familiar with biological survey protocols and construction monitoring practices
  • Awareness of California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and Endangered Species Act (ESA)

Abilities:

  • Able to work overtime
  • Excellent technical writing skills
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Proficient time-management skills (i.e., efficient, organized, and has the ability to prioritize)
  • Detail-oriented without losing sight of the big picture
  • Good interpersonal communication skills; team player with professional attitude
  • Dedicated, motivated, and proactive; self-motivated learner
  • Proven ability to work in physically challenging work settings and is in good physical condition
