Position Overview
FCS is looking for On-Call Biological Field Monitors / Technicians (CG03) who will participate in construction monitoring sites throughout California to support federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. This role is an evergreen position, meaning we are always looking for talented individuals to join our team. Applications for this position are continuously accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis. Must have a minimum of 1-year prior monitoring experience. Bird surveying, California plant identification, and endangered species field experience are required. Must have reliable transportation. If driving a vehicle, you must have proof of a valid driver's license with vehicle insurance. Mileage reimbursement is provided (FCS Vehicle Policy applies).
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plant Identification and Habitat Associations
- Wildlife surveys (nesting birds, rare / threatened/endangered species, and their associated habitats)
- Assists in field report writing and GPS operation
Skills
- Ability to demonstrate proper fieldwork protocols and techniques
- Proven ability to create results and complete assignments in a timely fashion, many times under strict deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and professionalism.
- Keen attention to detail
- Strong self-motivation and ability to work independently with minimum guidance
- Able to follow instructions and ask informed questions
- Proficiency in MS Office software applications, especially Word and Excel
- Excellent writing, analytical, and communication skills
- Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related field
- 2+ years of related experience and/or education (1 yr. in the field)
- Requires knowledge of general ecology, botany, and zoology
- Good working knowledge of federal environmental laws and regulations and NEPA/CEQA documentation
- Good working knowledge of California's flora and fauna
Work Environment: The position will be exposed to all weather conditions and terrain. The position requires working outdoors and traveling to and from project sites throughout California counties. Must comply with all travel and in-person safety policies.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. The employee may spend extended periods of time standing and/or walking outdoors. The employee is required to stoop, walk, reach with hands and arms, and hand/finger dexterity. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Walking 5 or more miles per day is not uncommon. Must be able to lift 15 lbs.
Compensation
- Salary: $20 - $35 Hourly
