Position Summary
Hexagon Energy is seeking an Associate Development Engineer to support its portfolio of solar and wind energy projects. The Associate Development Engineer will be responsible for providing technical support for projects from origination to late stage development (sales support) and will have the opportunity to gain exposure to many aspects of project development. The Associate Development Engineer will report directly to the Director of Engineering and work closely with Project Developers and Project Managers as a liaison between the Hexagon Energy development team and the technical disciplines involved in designing, permitting, and constructing renewable energy projects.
Candidates must demonstrate a keen interest in and knowledge of the renewable energy industry. The ideal candidate's career history and experience should demonstrate the ability to efficiently and effectively balance multiple projects in a deadline driven, team-oriented environment. Attention to detail (accuracy and thoroughness) is a must.
Ideal candidates will have 0-2 years of renewable energy or equivalent industry experience. Experience with battery storage is a plus.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Develop site constraints maps (GIS and CAD)
- Generate preliminary site layouts
- Model generator energy production (PVSyst and SAM)
- Prepare and manage utility interconnection applications
- Provide technical guidance for RFP responses
- Bid and manage outside environmental and engineering consultants
- Review, assess, and clarify results of preliminary site studies and identify risks or design constraints
- Support development team with local, state, and federal permits (POC with relevant agencies)
- Assist project team with other projects on an ad-hoc basis
Note: Travel requirement - up to 25%, often on short notice.
Qualifications
Skills - Required:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
- Basic command of at least one programming language
- Experience drafting with Google SketchUp and AutoCAD
- Ability to communicate across a broad spectrum of technical understanding (subject matter expert to layperson)
- Creative problem-solving ability and solutions-oriented mindset
- Technical risk identification and assessment
- Ability to review and interpret construction drawings for technical requirements
Skills - Preferred:
- Familiarity with PV production modeling software (PVSyst, SAM, First Solar Plant Predict, etc.)
- Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software
- Understanding of the relevant building and electrical codes
Education & Additional Certifications:
- Applicants with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Civil, Structural, or Mechanical) are preferred.
- Other quantitative-focused majors will be considered.
