Strategic Energy Innovations (SEI) is a small non-profit organization based in Marin County. Through funding from federal, state, municipal, private foundations and other client organizations, SEI helps communities, school districts, affordable housing, utility and foundation clients to design and implement energy efficiency, conservation and clean energy expansion programs.  We approach energy savings from several different perspectives and on many levels.

Position Overview: 

SEI is seeking an Assistant Project Coordinator to support our work in the Sustainable Communities Sector. This is a full time position working typical office hours, Monday-Friday, with occasional field support. Target start date is September 1, and applications must be submitted as soon as possible.

The Assistant Project Coordinator reports to and supports the activities of SEI Program Managers and Directors. We are looking for candidates who will work principally within our Sustainable Communities Sector.  This sector involves work related to implementing climate protection strategies in communities including activities such as:

  • Conducting greenhouse gas inventories for local governments,
  • Researching energy and climate change metrics for developing climate action plans and local government policies,
  • Creating and implementing educational and marketing programs for community sustainability initiatives.

Depending on project needs and funding, the Project Coordinator will also support a variety of roles that include:

  • K-12: Interfacing with educators and students, coordinating trainings, creating innovative approaches to working with schools and the community, and developing curriculum.
  • Green Housing: Assisting Green Housing Program Manager in planning and implementing energy efficiency retrofit projects, creating educational and marketing material and helping to package, pilot and promote green resident and property management training programs.
  • Higher Education: Planning and implementing campus-based greening and workforce training efforts with students, staff and program partners. Supporting the effort to expand our college/university models to other institutions within and beyond California.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement various projects/contracts (includes supporting grant/proposal writing, project scoping, budgeting, implementation, reporting and related follow up)
  • Coordinate program stakeholders and implementation partners
  • Deliver project-related presentations and trainings
  • Conduct program-related web-based and phone research
  • Help to plan and coordinate program-related workshops and events
  • Prepare reports and spreadsheets quantifying and tabulating results
  • Help to facilitate meetings and provide logistical support for training workshops
  • Advise clients on the availability of technical and educational resources for energy efficiency and climate protection
  • Support the breadth of SEI programs and program areas as time and funding priorities dictate and as directed by immediate supervisor

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates need possess the following qualities, skills, and experience to be considered:

Content Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in a quantitative discipline, environmental studies, or related field or equivalent work experience
  • Working knowledge of energy efficiency technologies and energy conservation, as well as concepts and best practices relating to climate change and energy efficiency topics
  • Experience with quantification of energy uses and impacts and climate change metrics

General Skills:

  • Strong verbal, written communication and analytical skills
  • Strong communications, community outreach, marketing, or stakeholder engagement skills
  • Experience with public speaking or group facilitation.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to follow-through to meet multiple, concurrent deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience navigating the Internet along with competency across the Microsoft suite of office automation software (e.g.: MS Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)

Personal Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to build rapport with a wide range of people
  • Ability to work both under direct supervision and independently

Additional Desired Skills:

  • Familiarity with data analysis and quantification basics (e.g.: Excel charting, graphing and data tabulation) 
  • Knowledge of national, state and local environmental policies and relevant policy mechanisms for addressing energy efficiency, renewable energy and climate change in a community setting
  • Online and IT skills including use of online social media, video editing or website creation.
