Description
~ The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC) is a sanctuary dedicated to preserving Alaska’s wildlife through conservation, research, education and quality animal care. ~
AWCC takes in injured and orphaned animals year-round and provides them with spacious enclosures and quality animal care. Most of the animals that arrive at the AWCC become permanent residents and will always have a home here.
The Center maintains over 200 acres of spacious habitats for animals to feel at home and display their natural “wild” behavior. Visitors may see brown bears cooling off in the water, a bull moose strutting, wood bison roaming on pastures and more.
Position Overview
Animal Care Internship:
Full-time, seasonal, paid. 20-week opportunities starting in May and ending in September. 12-week and 16-week options may be considered for the right candidate. Under the Direction of the Animal Curator, Animal Care interns will work closely with the full-time keeper staff learning all facets of captive wildlife husbandry and care. Primary duties will include diet prep, browse collection, habitat cleaning and other important daily tasks. Interns may have the chance to observe/assist with annual exams and veterinary care. Interns will assist with daily wildlife encounters and be on stand-by should the need arise to help the Education Department with guided tours and step-on tours.
