The Rainforest Alliance (RA) is an international nonprofit organization that works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behavior.

Based in New York City, with offices throughout the United States and worldwide, the Rainforest Alliance works with people whose livelihoods depend on the land, helping them transform the way they grow food, harvest wood and host travelers.

Position Summary:

The Agreements Manager reports to the Director of Finance & Operations and will be responsible for providing institutional oversight and technical support to RA Divisions with the objective of protecting the organization's interests through the effective negotiation, preparation and administration of contractual agreements.

Focusing both on contractual agreements issued by RA using standardized templates and on funding agreements from government aid agencies or their contractors and foundations, the Agreements Manager conducts in-house training on contract policies and procedures, provides support in the preparation and negotiation of agreements, and conducts internal compliance monitoring.

Responsibilities: 

RA-Issued Contractual Agreements 

  • Conduct new staff training and periodic on-going training on RA contracts policies and procedures to key audiences such as program/project administrators, project directors, program staff and other internal audiences;  
  • Respond to ad hoc requests for technical assistance and support in both the preparation and negotiation of RA-issued agreements with outside parties;  
  • Develop and implement procedures for monitoring internal compliance with policies and procedures related to RA-issued agreements;  
  • Develop procedures and strategies for strengthening and streamlining the administration of RA-issued agreements.

Government Aid Agency Funding Agreements 

  • Conduct new staff training and periodic on-going training on policies and procedures for complying with institutional donor requirements to key audiences such as program/project administrators, project directors, and other program staff;  
  • Collaborate with and support Institutional Giving, Finance and Program to ensure bids and proposals conform to potential donor requirements, and participate on cross-functional teams to support proposal preparation and review;  
  • Collaborate with Institutional Giving to provide technical assistance and support in both the review and negotiation of funding agreements from government aid agencies or their contractors and foundations;  
  • Develop and implement procedures and systems for monitoring internal compliance with donor requirements;  
  • Coordinate with the Institutional Giving Department, program/project administrators, and other RA Divisions to develop procedures and strategies for strengthening and streamlining the administration of institutional funding agreements;  
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree required;  
  • Minimum 7-10 years relevant work experience in an international NGO environment;  
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, motivation, presentation & training skills;  
  • Knowledge of US federal grant and cooperative agreement regulations, OMB Circulars and the FAR required;  
  • Knowledge of multi-lateral aid agency regulations strongly preferred;  
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office and Internet);  
  • Ability to travel up to 25%;  
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;  
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus.
