Position Overview
UL is looking for the right person to join our Environmental Advisory Services Team . UL fosters safe living and working conditions for people everywhere through the application of science to solve safety, security and sustainability challenges. The Environment division helps advance global sustainability by supporting the growth and development of environmentally preferable products, services and organizations. Our services–including GREENGUARD and ECOLOGO Certifications, environmental claim validations, transparency tools (such as Environmental Product Declarations) and advisory services–are structured to help companies achieve their unique sustainability goals, while also helping purchasers, retailers, governments and consumers find healthier, more sustainable products they can trust.
Preferred locations include: Northbrook, IL, Washington, DC, and Marietta GA. There is a possibility for working remotely from a different U.S. location.
Responsibilities
- UL Environment’s Advisory Services function currently supports clients in achieving their product-level or enterprise-level sustainability goals.
- The consultant will be responsible for helping to grow our sustainability consulting practice by managing and delivering on projects and assisting the organization in achieving its strategic and revenue goals.
- Under minimal supervision, this role: independently plans and carries out complex and high-level (often of a highly confidential nature) projects to achieve stated objectives, supports the planning and direction of project schedules and budgets, supports the management of project activities generally within a department or functional area.
- Projects may include assessments of operations, methods, and procedures, and reviews of organization structures.
- The candidate must be comfortable working with remote team-members and clients.
- Moderate travel required.
- Deliver on revenue goals and practice growth goals.
- Supports business development activities by writing proposals.
- Manages multiple customer projects, providing excellent service in meeting customer needs.
- Responsible for project plan definition and execution to meet customer goals.
- May supervise the work of other individuals within department, functional area, or subcontractors.
- Provides quality assurance review of draft deliverables created by other team members.
- Coordinates with internal and customer project teams.
- Coordinates with sales and marketing for timing of press releases, announcements, client engagement, talking points, and final publication dates
- May serve on committees and represents the viewpoint of management.
- Performs needs analyses to identify areas for study or opportunities for new programs.
- Develops project or program goals and strategies.
- Determines methodology and development plans for new programs.
- Develops estimates of cost, time, and resource needs.
- Collects data from a variety of sources, evaluates and interprets data, and draws conclusions. Conducts cost/benefit analyses.
- Prepares and presents reports or program proposals which include recommendations and supporting arguments.
- May present reports to corporate level audiences.
- Manages program performance by evaluating performance to standards and implementing corrective actions.
- Performs other duties as directed.
Additional functions include:
- Helping customers understand how to identify, prioritize, and manage environmental and social issues.
- Conducting benchmarking assessments.
- Providing research support for supply chain risk assessments.
- Assisting in project and program planning and management, such as managing subcontractors, coordinating and facilitating customer meetings, report template development, and more.
Qualifications
- University degree in Business Administration or related field plus generally 6 years of directly related experience.
- 3+ years of client consulting experience.
- Demonstrated ability to identify independently needs for projects or programs, formulate objectives, plan and execute projects and/or programs, and manage programs.
- Outstanding writing and verbal communication skills.
- Superior skills with common Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel).
- Excellent research skills.
