Position Overview

Environmental Consulting & Technology, Inc. (ECT), seeks a Wetland/Wildlife Ecologist or Scientist to join our growing company. Field work is primarily located in Florida, however, expertise and experience, especially in specialized areas, may be needed throughout the company. 

Responsibilities

  • Working in a collaborative environment, you’ll help ECT’s clients balance business and economic needs with environmental compliance needs based on scientific principles and experience. As such, we expect this position to be split evenly between field work and the office; applicants must be comfortable working in both settings.
  • You must also be able to multitask competing long- and short-term deadlines, have excellent communication skills, demonstrated insight about current and future regulations and applicability, and contribute to ECT’s growth and sustainability as a team player.
  • We’re looking for ecologists familiar with wetlands, delineations, environmental permitting, environmental regulations pertaining to wetlands and listed species, habitat assessments, plant identification, and wildlife surveys; experience with these in Florida is a big plus.
  • The right candidate will be able to grow this position into a larger one within ECT.
  • Field conditions are what a wetland ecologist would expect in Florida and include wetlands, swamps, and forests with potential exposure to dangerous wildlife.
  • ECT is a safety-first company; all employees must adhere to strict safety protocols, including field work.
  • Excellent communication skills are necessary as you’ll also be responsible for writing reports and participating in meetings with clients, other team members, and agency personnel.
  • This position also requires developing your own business development opportunities, including writing proposals for new and existing clients.

Qualifications

Project Management Experience:

  • Strong communication skills; effective technical writing and verbal communication abilities.
  • Experience with wetland ecology and delineations, habitat assessment, and plant identification.
  • Regulatory and permitting experience (e.g., Florida Department of Environmental Protection, watershed management districts, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers).
  • Wildlife surveys and listed species permitting.
  • Ability to supervise/mentor junior staff.

Minimum Education, Experience & Registrations:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental or ecology-related field and 5-7 years of related professional experience or master’s degree with 3-5 years of experience.
  • Wetland experience.
  • Ability to effectively manage projects and balance field work and office needs.
  • Valid driver license and comfortable driving a 4WD truck.
  • Work may require lifting up to 50 pounds of equipment, working in all types of weather conditions for extended periods of time, walking long distances, and working odd and/or long hours (including occasional overnight and out-of-town travel).
