Nature Day Camp: Camp is an opportunity for children to explore the natural world, build long-lasting relationships, and develop a sense of place, while learning about the world around them. Position Overview

Tualatin Riverkeepers will be hiring Nature Day Camp Counselors for Summer 2017. Time commitment is approximately 270 hrs. Includes training, camp planning, and camp sessions. Sessions take place at: Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge, Dirksen Nature Park in Tigard, and Forest Grove.

TRK seeks enthusiastic educators to assist in developing and implementing Nature Day Camp programs. Under the supervision of the Environmental Education Coordinator, Interns will assist in developing and leading lessons and activities in the out of doors for children between the ages of four and 13 years old.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a mentor that thoughtfully engages camper’s interests and encourages inquiry.
  • Ensure campers’ ability to participate successfully in all aspects of camp experience trough building self-confidence, developing positive relationships, and encouraging participation in camp activities.
  • Provide a safe and respectful learning environment.
  • Lead activities and adapt them to the needs of the students and space.
  • Interact with camper’s parents and care-givers.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Available for all sessions of camp and trainings.
  • Over 18 with high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to be outdoors for up 8 hours daily. Ability to walk, run and keep up with young children.
  • At least 2 years of experience working with children.
  • Reliable transportation to camp locations.
  • Curiosity for/awareness of the natural world, Native plant and animals, and/or land management practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Celebrate and encourage diverse backgrounds and families.
  • Ability to pass a background check and National Sex Offender Registry search.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Course work in Education or Natural Sciences.
  • Spanish proficiency.
  • Interest in a career in Environmental Education.
  • Experience developing lesson plans.
  • CPR/First Aid certified.
  • Interest in protecting and caring for the natural world.
