~ The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) is a bi-county agency empowered by the State of Maryland in 1927 to acquire, develop, maintain and administer a regional system of parks within Montgomery and Prince George's Counties, and to provide land use planning for the physical development of Prince George's and Montgomery counties. In addition, the agency gained responsibility for the public recreation program in Prince George's County in 1970. ~

M-NCPPC administers a park system of more than 52,000 acres. It is composed of stream valley parks, large regional parks, neighborhood parks and park-school recreation areas. Its staff of career employees includes planners, park and recreation administrators, park police and administration staff. In addition, seasonal workers staff numerous park and recreation programs.

Position Overview

Do you like Parks, trees, and working outside? The Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Montgomery County Parks, Horticulture crew is seeking a Tree Care Assistant to assist planting and caring for trees.

The position is seasonal, part-time and located in Gaithersburg. Work hours are weekdays Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities

Under supervision, successful candidate will:

  • Perform general landscaping work in parks including tree watering, mulching and pruning; tree harvesting and planting.
  • Operate equipment and use hand-tools to perform work.
  • Work environment is outdoors with exposure to heat, cold, humidity, other inclement weather, and insects.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • 6 months to a year of landscaping experience is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of trees, landscape and grounds maintenance practices and techniques is helpful.
  • Skill in performing specialized tasks and using tools and equipment can be learned on the job.
  • Willingness to be trained to operate small equipment such as Dingo's, skid steer, tractors, and water truck.
