Position Overview

Director of Policy Outreach, Gund Institute for Environment (Posting # S1886PO)

The University of Vermont (UVM) is seeking a qualified individual to envision and lead a new comprehensive policy outreach program for the Gund Institute for Environment, a university-wide interdisciplinary research center.

Responsibilities

  • This leadership position connects UVM research and scholars with external leaders in government, business, and NGOs, internationally, nationally and in Vermont.
  • The Director of Policy Outreach will liaise directly with leaders across sectors to influence real-world policy and management decisions with UVM research, advance the global reputation of UVM and the Gund Institute as a leader in cutting- edge environmental expertise and solutions, and forge new strategic partnerships that increase funding and support of the Institute.

Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications include a Master's degree in policy, law, environment, international development, government, or other relevant field and 2 - 3 years of related experience in public policy on state, national or international level with expertise in policy, economic, legal and/or scientific aspects of environmental issues, with some understanding of ecosystem services and ecological economics, required.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish/enhance relationships and network with government policymakers, environmental NGOs, and/or business communities required.
  • Effective public speaking and written communication skills, ability to work independently and with accuracy in a fast–paced environment, and travel as required.
