Position Overview
Nebraska Game & Parks Commission is seeking a Conservation Technician II.
Responsibilities
- Assist with various aspects of the Rivers and Streams Program to include sampling using various techniques including seining and electrofishing.
- Fish, macroinvertebrate and aquatic plant identification and maintaining all associated records.
- Determination of range, distribution and population dynamics of stream fish in various watersheds throughout the state.
- Measure various habitat parameters to assess the condition of individual rivers and streams across the state along with assisting with pre and post aquatic habitat improvement projects.
- Maintenance of all associated equipment and proper submission of all required reports.
- Operate equipment associated with fisheries survey duties to include motor vehicles, motor boats, trailers, and backpack electrofishing units.
- Provide information to public about the stream survey work and all related Commission activities.
- Perform related work as required.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- 15 semester hours or the equivalent of post high school coursework/training in fisheries management, wildlife management, natural resources and/or biology and 12 months experience in wildlife, recreation or fisheries management.
- Valid driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- General knowledge of fisheries techniques and fish, macroinvertebrate and aquatic plant identification.
- Ability to communicate effectively; follow instructions; maintain records; operate equipment described above; lift and move 50 pounds.
- Person selected to fill this position must be able to obtain Certified Pesticide Applicator License during original probationary period.
