Raemelton Farm is Seeking an Energetic Experienced Nursery Manager!

We are looking for a person interested in taking their career to the management level at a cutting edge ‘growing’ wholesale production nursery. Education or experience in horticulture, farming, or related field is important. If you’ve got ‘green’ experience and you’re ready to take on a more challenging role this is the job for you!

Responsibilities

This position will include all aspects of nursery operations. Think Swiss Army Knife. Specific duties include (but are certainly not limited to):

  • General farm management (tilling, mowing, fixing things etc.).
  • Planting thousands and thousands of trees.
  • Supporting our Integrated Pest and Weed Management programs.
  • Operating a range of farm equipment — tractors, loaders, specialty machines.
  • Maintenance of all forms of farm equipment.
  • Pruning and training more than 300 different types of woody landscape plants.
  • Manage on-farm research and trials.
  • Supporting sales and marketing staff with inventory management and farm tours.
  • Assist with development of some of the most innovative progressive sustainable nursery production techniques anywhere...seriously.

Qualifications

  • This is a management position.
  • The successful candidate will have the ability to juggle multiple projects, manage field crews, prioritize/organize farm operations, and effectively function when the situation completely changes with little warning.
  • This position is not a desk job.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to join in the full spectrum of field operations.
  • The candidate should possess physical strength and endurance.
  • The job requires the ability to repeatedly lift objects of 50 lbs.
  • Farm operations run year-round, so work outside in very hot, very cold, very wet, very windy, very muddy, and very dusty conditions should be expected.
  • Farm operations include the use of a wide range of crop protection and weed management products (chemicals).
  • The successful candidate should have, or be able to get, a Maryland Pesticide Applicator license (Private or Commercial).
  • Raemelton also does USDA Organic production--the successful candidate should be equally comfortable with the non-use of chemicals.
  • Raemelton makes use of a wide range of information technologies.
  • The successful candidate will be comfortable with Microsoft Office software, networked desktop and mobile devices, and be able to learn to use new software and hardware.
