Position Overview

Are you passionate about research to ensure a sustainable Earth? If so, we may have the perfect job for you.

We are looking for Scientific Editors to join the launch team of an exciting new Cell Press journal aiming to publish the most significant research across the natural, social and applied sciences in the context of environmental change and global sustainability. This includes research into the rates and scale of environmental change, the management of resources in a finite world, and transformative solutions to ensure societal and environmental well-being.

This is a full-time editorial position. Our preference is for a candidate based at the Cell Press headquarter in Cambridge, MA. However, we are also open to candidates who would be located in our London or Beijing office.

Successful candidates will work closely with the Editor-in-Chief to help shape and launch the journal.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing submitted research papers, making editorial recommendations, and overseeing the peer review process;
  • Commissioning, and shaping review- and commentary-type content;
  • Traveling to scientific conferences, and developing strong ties with the relevant research community;
  • Organizing scientific conferences; and
  • Contributing to Cell Press’s growth and innovation projects.

Qualifications

Some of the key attributes that we are looking for in the ideal candidate are:

  • A Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline including, but not limited to; climate science and policy, agronomy, biogeochemistry, socio-economics, sustainable development, urban science, and biodiversity and conservation; 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Broad scientific interest in science and publishing;
  • Critical thinking and the willingness to learn and absorb new areas of research; and
  • The ability to successfully work independently and in diverse teams.
