Graduate Program

~ Teton Science Schools (TSS) inspires curiosity, engagement and leadership through transformative place-based education. ~

TSS is an organization in northwest Wyoming and Idaho comprised of seven program areas sharing a common vision of education. We have been teaching about the natural world and the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem since 1967. TSS is deeply rooted in the outdoors as place anchors and enriches our understanding of the world. Our organization has educated, trained and inspired thousands of children, youth and adults, bringing them together through the study of nature and place-based education. We serve students from across Wyoming, the Intermountain West, the nation and around the world.

Position Overview

The Graduate Program of Teton Science Schools is a unique combination of academic theory and practical educator training, all nestled in the southeastern corner of Grand Teton National Park. During the 11.5 month immersive program, students will focus on place-based, field science education and apply teaching skills in the field and in schools.

Our practices are guided by a close connection with other Teton Science Schools programs. This residency program is located on the Kelly Campus of Teton Science Schools, which provides an intentional learning community just 18 miles outside of historic Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

The program combines traditional classroom learning with the invaluable experience of teaching a variety of diverse student groups. The classroom curriculum provides instruction and knowledge development through the lens of place-based education theories, while the ongoing teaching practica structures and cultivates student teaching methods under the guidance and close mentorship of faculty. The summer semester is the culminating experience of the Graduate Program, where students plan, instruct and assess a visiting school group.
