Position Overview

The Process Engineer works with production, engineering and maintenance personnel to identify and successfully implement improvement opportunities for existing production processes. These opportunities include items such as, improved equipment reliability, improvement in process capability in both quality and throughput rate.

Assists the Technical Manager with environmental compliance involving manufacturing processes. Learn and own the mill quality processes, including recommending improvements as well as establishing and maintaining process controls and procedures to ensure consistent product quality and safety and environmental compliance.

Additionally, the Process Engineer will be involved in the qualification of new product trials and processes. Interact with customers as required for new product development and product improvements. They will conduct root cause analysis and corrective actions on customer quality complaints and evaluate quarterly product quality to identify trends. Ownership of portions of the safety program belongs to the position as well as other duties that may be assigned.

Responsibilities

Business Objectives Alignment:

  • Help roll out an operational strategy in line with his unit’s business strategy

Operational Excellence:

  • Assist with tests carried out by the unit and support investment projects
  • Ensure technical support and develop relationships with business partners
  • Maximize synergy and foster collaboration among Cascades’ groups, units and business units
  • Help implement standardized manufacturing practices (One Certification) and implement equipment management best practices
  • Help the unit achieve its operational objectives (e.g., quality, OSH, productivity, profitability, maintenance)
  • Recommend and/or implement solutions to improve his unit’s manufacturing efficiency
  • Share best practices
  • Support and promote processes and tools that drive a continuous improvement culture in his unit

Health & Safety:

  • Comply with safe work standards in effect
  • Help develop and maintain a healthy and safe work environment for all Cascades employees
  • Help set OSH priorities for his unit in line with corporate objectives and follow up on them
  • Promote sound occupational health and safety management

Corporate Responsibility and Governance:

  • Conduct himself ethically and uphold Cascades’ culture and values
  • Make sure projects comply with the standards, regulations and procedures in effect
  • Ensure the sustainable and responsible development of the unit

  • Help deliver on his unit’s technical innovation objectives
  • Keep a watch on new technologies and share them within the organization
  • Follow practices that are in line with our client-centric business vision

Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, Paper Science or relevant field) or 3+ years of engineering experience in related technical or manufacturing process
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Lean or Six Sigma certification or lean manufacturing exposure
  • Experience in managing projects and establishing priorities
  • Ability to work with extended hours as necessary to complete work assignments
  • Prefers hands-on assignments involved in the mill as opposed to office work
  • Solid interpersonal and communication skills
  • Self-motivated and directed as well as capable of working with teams
  • Above average computer skills (MS Office, SAP, MES, AS400)
  • Strong time management skills
