Wind Farm Production Supervisor

Position Overview

The Wind Farm Production Supervisor shall:

• Provide planning, direction, regulatory compliance and oversight to assure the safe operation of the Northwest Ohio Wind project (NWO; 105 MW, based on 42 General Electric 2.5 MW wind turbine generators) located in Haviland, Ohio.
• Be well versed in the fundamental wind farm operations and maintenance, work methods and standards and have the aptitude to utilize both office and plant technology to plan and execute work, the capacity to initiate and implement appropriate change; and the ability to direct and monitor the work performance of NWO Wind project’s operations and maintenance contractor (O&MC) and other third parties.
• Report to CMS Enterprises assigned asset manager and project team, who are headquartered in Jackson, Michigan.
• Support other future CMS Enterprises renewable energy projects and investments.

Responsibilities

The primary role for the Wind Farm Production Supervisor will be to provide day-to-day oversight of the O&MC and other business and operations functions at the NWO Wind project site.

In addition, the Supervisor will be responsible for:

• Working with third party contractors and other CMS Enterprises support departments to optimize the performance of the project and to maintain compliance with all PJM market conditions, North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), ReliabilityFirst, and other codes and standards, and permits and licenses.
• Assignment of work, assurance of safety compliance, resolution of issues, and business decisions concerning methods, crewing, schedules, etc. Work may need to be performed on multiple shifts and may include irregular hours.
• Involvement in change management and interfacing with the Transmission Owner (AEP Ohio) and Regional Transmission Operator (PJM Interconnection).
• Anticipating operational roadblocks and respond in a timely manner and to create/execute work plans independently and with other CMS Enterprises departments and/or external organizations.

Essential Functions:

The Wind Farm Production Supervisor is responsible for the following essential functions or possesses stated skills, in concert with the CMS Enterprises asset manager:

• Plans, organizes, coordinates, evaluates and supervises employees and contractors participating in NWO Wind project operations and maintenance.
• Possesses a strong technical understanding of wind turbine generators, electrical systems, wind turbine controls, and SCADA equipment, preferably with General Electric equipment experience.
• Oversees the project O&M Building and Collector Substation operations and spare parts inventory, as well as Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) function and project dispatch to the PJM Interconnection market (in concert with others).
• Recommends operations and maintenance changes and enhancements to the project and O&MC and supports preparation of annual budgets for facility operation and maintenance.
• Serves as local representative for CMS Enterprises with respect to project leaseholders, local officials, and other third parties.
• Completes reports associated with project O&M status and performance, including safety compliance.
• Inspects the work of the O&MC and others on work progress, and procures operations supplies, equipment, spare parts, and materials.
• Conducts regular jobsite meetings, participates as a member of safety committee with O&MC; investigates and completes necessary incident reports and accident reports; and maintains records per CMS Enterprises document control system.
• Prepares and submits required reports for appropriate agencies including NERC and ReliabilityFirst
• Implements the project preventative maintenance program in concert with the O&MC.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma / GED.
• 1-2 years of prior wind farm production or maintenance supervision experience.
  • OR equivalent experience in wind farm engineering, electrical/controls construction, commissioning, and performance testing.

• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, engineering, or other equivalent technical field.
• Possession of other credentials such as a Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar industry certifications.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
• Must be able to stand and walk for periods of up to and beyond eight hours in all kinds of weather, snow, mud, dirt water, ice, etc.
• The employee is required to talk and hear.
• The employee must frequently lift and move up to fifty pounds and occasionally lift and move up to one hundred pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• The employee must also be able to access wind turbine nacelles in accordance with industry and project safety requirements, including ability to climb metal ladders without any climbing assistance and self-rescue

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the job duties:

• The noise level adjacent to wind turbine generator equipment may locally be loud and demand Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
• The noise level in the O&M Building (office space) will be low to moderate (warehouse).

Additional Information

Hours and Travel:

• This position requires the individual to work a minimum of 40 hours per week with a majority of the time spent at the NWO Wind project site and occasional trips to Jackson, Michigan and other locations.
• Individual needs to be willing to work additional hours as necessary to meet deadlines or assist with project activities and could be given very short notice to do so.
• Individual should be willing to participate in the on call rotation in case of potential outages.
• Individual may have to work outside of normal hours to help with or oversee outages or work of the O&MC.
• Individual must have a valid driver’s license.

Compensation

• Position will be filled at the appropriate salary grade based upon the skills, knowledge, and experience of the selected candidate.
