As part of Berkshire Hathaway Energy's expansion into the unregulated renewables market, a primary subsidiary - BHE Renewables - was developed to oversee unregulated solar, wind, hydro and geothermal projects.
Based in Des Moines, Iowa, BHE Renewables encompasses BHE Solar, BHE Wind, BHE Geothermal and BHE Hydro.
Position Overview
The wind site manager is responsible and accountable for direct oversight and management of MidAmerican's wind projects through the entire project lifecycle. Located at the project job site, the wind site manager is responsible for the safe, cost effective and timely execution of project development, construction and commissioning of new wind farms.
Responsibilities
- Ensures the safe and cost-effective project development, construction, commissioning, and operation and maintenance of the wind operations. (40%)
- Manages project financial performance including day-ahead market offers, reviewing power purchase agreement settlements, reviewing and approving the day-to-day project expenditures and budgets including both capital and O&M funds. (10%)
- Manages and directs employees and contractors both at the site and those supporting the project from other locations to ensure BHE Renewables business objectives are achieved. (15%)
- Ensures compliance with all environmental laws, policies and regulations governing work at the job site and on the project. Directly responsible for ensuring contractors performing construction work on site comply with all environmental and land use permit conditions. Reviews environmental scope, files permits and audits construction activities. (15%)
- Negotiates and participates in the development of contracts associated with the project (i.e., equipment purchase and consulting agreements). (5%)
- Maintains project schedules; keeps management informed on specified frequency (i.e. weekly status reports, monthly reports). (5%)
- Establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the community and stakeholders. (5%)
- Performs additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (5%)
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a technical field is preferred or equivalent work experience. (Typically 6 years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)
- 8 years of related project management or renewable energy experience including 3 years supervisory management responsibilities.
- Knowledge in new renewable/alternative energy power projects preferred.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills and leadership abilities.
- Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
- The ability to work effectively with people of different backgrounds.
