Operator, Renewable Energy Plant

The company continues to advance its technology and test new applications for gasification at the Sierra Energy Research Park in Davis, California. Sierra Energy’s commercial facility is located in Monterey County, California.

Position Overview

Operate FastOx gasifier, gas cleaning, and front-end waste processing isles in safe and efficient manner. Conduct start-up, steady state operation, and shut down of FastOx system per standard operating procedures and work under special instruction from the Plant Manager.

Level of Supervision:

• Will work under direct supervision of Plant Manager
• Expected to operate within company guidelines; routine duties are performed with minimum supervision; proceed alone at work using standard practices and procedures

Responsibilities

• Operate automatic control system per standard operating procedures
• Perform manual operating tasks as necessary
• Monitor and record process parameters
• Prepare equipment for operation
• Conduct preventive maintenance as needed and instructed by the lead operator
• Perform job while observing all safety and health rules, policies and regulations 
• Follow emergency procedures as necessary
• Other duties as required

Qualifications

•  Ability and experience following written operating procedures
• Ability to handle emergency situations as necessary per emergency procedures
• Familiar with motors, pumps, valves, and piping
• Knowledge of documenting process data and incident reports
• Familiar with personal computer including basic Word and Excel 

Required Education and Experience:

• At least 1-year experience in maintenance or process operations
• At least 3 years general work experience in energy, oil or gas environment
• Experience in and certified to drive forklift while following safety rules
• High School Diploma or equivalent

Working Conditions and Travel:

• Work 12- hour shifts when needed
• Work at Fort Hunter Liggett, CA, and other locations as needed
• Work morning and evening shifts
• Weekend work as needed

Physical Requirements:

Applicants must be able to:

• Work outdoors in appropriate personal protective equipment, including rain, cold, and heat (14 F to 114 F)
• Climb fixed ladders and extension ladders
• Lift 50 pounds
• Work at elevated heights
• Work with Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and respirators
• Maintain facial hair to standards required by SCBA and respirators
• Enter confined spaces
• See colors
• Hear alarms
• Communicate via radio
