~ Humans have been interacting with the land that is now Fontenelle Forest for many thousands of years. But, it wasn’t until 1913 that the land was officially protected with the founding of the Fontenelle Nature Association. ~

Though this subsequent centennial is but a sliver of time in the grand scheme of things, it has been marked by dramatic milestones in the area of forest conservation. Learning about this history helps us appreciate it even more today and ensures solid stewardship of this land for years to come.

Position Overview

The Communications & Development Associate reports to the Manager of Marketing & Events. This position supports the use of a comprehensive array of strategies (marketing, promotions, events, and special exhibits) and the integrity of Fontenelle Forest’s systems that support internal and external communications and relationship management. This position performs and important support role on the Development & Marketing team.

Responsibilities

Marketing & Events:

  • Assist in planning, writing and managing e-Newsletters
  • Organization, design, and publication of the quarterly Leaflet newsletter
  • Create and send all email blasts through Constant Contact
  • Manage and update the Fontenelle Forest website
  • Update and maintain Fontenelle Forest’s social media presence, including scheduling social media updates and Facebook events, and using apps and other latest technologies to gain and engage with followers
  • Write press releases/ Draft, distribute and pitch news releases, media alerts and other stories
  • Pull reports on social media progress
  • Make weekly list of Fontenelle Forest media mentions
  • Keep press contacts up to date
  • Design flyers, graphics, evites and other marketing material for major events hosted
  • Photograph/video record events and Forest activities
  • Support event implementation as needed, including setting up and taking down rental / special events
  • Assist with printing, assembling and mailing printed materials
  • Attend meetings and networking events off-site

Database & IT Administration:

  • Ensure that the database is correctly configured to support strategies established by department director and managers for development, marketing and sales
  • Setup and management of program/event registration pages, discounts, and donations
  • Schedule and run ongoing reports; write and run queries for ad hoc reports
  • Manage database functionality, list selection, reporting, data integrity, and data entry
  • Establish and consistently apply data entry protocols and business rules for soft credits, company match, tributes, memorials, salutations, abbreviations and other data entry and business rule protocols to ensure consistent, accurate data entry
  • Manage community calendars
  • Troubleshoot shared office equipment
  • Monitor/troubleshoot all IT, including phones, computers, etc.
  • Coordinate user training
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business or equivalent work experience preferred
  • 3-5 years of related experience in marketing or communications is a plus
  • Firm grasp of available tools and platforms in the social media and graphic design
  • Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite (specifically InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Knowledge of HTML and WordPress a plus
  • Knowledge and experience using Altru CRM or other donor software highly desirable
  • An effective communicator, both written and oral
  •  Experience working effectively in a team oriented and collaborative environment
  • Self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, work efficiently, and meet deadlines
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends

Compensation

  • Salary: Starting at $27,040 DOE
  • Benefits: Health & life insurance, vacation leave, sick leave, paid holidays, membership privileges, 403b
