Our New York facilities include our headquarters at the Bronx Zoo, plus the Central Park Zoo, Queens Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo, and the New York Aquarium. The Bronx Zoo campus is also home to the Center for Global Conservation, the command center for our conservation work worldwide.

Position Overview

The New York Aquarium Education Department reaches thousands of learners each year through conservation science programs, with more than 10,000 of these interactions occurring away from the Aquarium. The Outreach team is seeking a skilled educator to help deliver conservation programming to students throughout the five boroughs through both in-school and afterschool programming.

The position starts in early September and runs through early-June. Fellows must be available to work 4 days per week, with both weekdays and weekends as potential parts of the schedule, about 20-25 hours a week. 

Responsibilities

  • Developing, preparing, and teaching afterschool educational programming with partner school(s).
  • Assisting instructional staff in the preparation and instruction of classroom programming.
  • Utilizing the New York Aquarium’s Education outreach vehicle to travel to and from most programs.
  • Assisting instructional staff with reviews and revisions of programs as needed.
  • Assist with general office tasks and general upkeep of outreach materials.
  • Assist with weekend special events/programs as needed.
  • Comply with all policies and procedures as presented by WCS.
  • Perform all related tasks and duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

  • At least one year of college, with an emphasis in science or a related field. 
  • One year prior teaching experience (informal or formal) preferred.
  • Educational background in science or education preferred.
  • New York Driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle in (minivan).
  • Capability to lift and carry 30+ lbs. 

Compensation: This position pays $14/hour.
