Sonoco Names Pamela Lewis to Board, Reports Quarterly Increase

HARTSVILLE, S.C. (July 21) — The president of Queens University in Charlotte, N.C., Pamela S. Lewis, is the newest member of the Sonoco Products Co. board of directors. “Sonoco is particularly pleased that Dr. Lewis has agreed to join our board of directors,” said Charles W. Coker, the companys board chairman. “She brings outstanding business acumen to our board, having served as dean of the McColl School of Business at Queens University of Charlotte prior to being named president in 2002.” Lewis also was dean of the LeBow College of Business at Drexel University. In other company news, Sonoco reported second-quarter net income of $35 million, or 35 cents per share, on revenue of $764 million. Those figures compare with net income of $22.8 million, or 24 cents per share, on revenue of $684 million for the second quarter of 2003.

Environmental Power Corp.'s Microgy Subsidiary Commences Third Project

Waste Industries USA Posts Increases in Revenue

RALEIGH, N.C. (July 21) — Waste Industries USA Inc. reported approximately 13 percent growth in both revenue and net income for the second quarter of 2003. The company posted net income of $3.1 million, or 22 cents per diluted share, on revenue of $74.4 million for the quarter ended June 30. Those figures compare with net income of $2.7 million, or 20 cents per diluted share, on revenue of $65.8 million for the second quarter of 2003. “We are pleased with our strong revenue growth for the quarter and our performance highlights initiatives taken over the past year to streamline our operations while pursuing a very selective growth strategy,” said Jim W.
